Headmaster Report #4

CORE!

Last month I announced ten brand new courses. I just can't compete with one-month-ago-Dacien, as I only have four new courses ready this month. As announced earlier this week, Mirus is hard at work on a batch of shiny new Heraldy graphics courses, the first of which has gone through three name changes since Tuesday. Graphics in the Brotherhood lives in the Journeyman Hall and is graded quickly and ruthlessly by His Most Pitiless and Malevolent Meatbag Overlord, Professor dbb0t.

I'm also happy to announce -- finally -- that the audit of the Department of CORE Studies is complete! Yesterday Ood uploaded the revised and rewritten Sith, Obelisk, and Krath courses to the website. These are some of the oldest courses still offered by the Shadow Academy, and have existed in some form since well before I joined over a decade ago. Hopefully we've set them up to run well for at least a few more years! If you spot any problems with the new courses, please let us know so that we can fix them ASAP. Omega Kira pointed out a few significant technical errors and earned himself a Scroll of Foundation for his trouble.

I promised Howie some degrees here...

...but I'm going to disappoint this time. The brand new Leadership Management course, planned to replace Leadership Studies and Leadership Fundamentals, is nearly ready but didn't make the cut for this month's report. Once it launches, I'll make a news post announcing changes to the Leadership degrees. I also plan to make some changes to the Tactics and Combat degrees after consulting with our brand new Voice (who also wrote a report), the Fist, and other people who shall remain nameless.

The Audit!

With CORE and Combat done for now (we're going to rewrite most of the courses from scratch), we're shifting our auditing attention to the Department of Writing Studies. Beyond fixing what's already there, we've started discussing a bunch of new ideas. More to come in future months -- any new courses aren't likely to appear here until after the Great Jedi War.

Top Exam Takers!

Since my last report, the top five exam takers at the SA are:

Name # of Exams
GRD Morathi Jadeonar 24
DJM Howlader Taldrya 23*
PRT Omega Kira 20
DJK Pug 18
JK Sa Ool 15

*This is not a typo.

Great work, everyone!

Conclusion

As always, I'd like to close this report by asking for your help. The SA is a massive wall of text that covers ever-shifting topics and is prone to typos and run-on sentences. If you spot substantive or grammatical problems, please let me, Ood, and the course PROF know so that we can fix them ASAP. As we work through the Departments during the audit, we're also going to be asking for help reading and editing -- if you have any particular expertise, let us know when we announce the next Department being audited. There are shiny things available. :P

Bubba

Sith Warlord Dacien Victae di Plagia
Headmaster of the Dark Jedi Brotherhood

LOL, oh Howie. Thanks for the updates Bubba!

Howie is due for a demotion competing with all those journeymen :P

Also wondering why gaming is part of the Combat and Tactics Degree. I don't really see how that plays into fictional combat/tactics, but that's just my opinion

I think there may be something in The Art of War about whoring CFs and PoBs in D3/TOR? :P

Yup, Sun Tzu would like to let everyone know that he still Pwns your britches* and will regain the position as person with more CFs then any other. Mister Machiavelli would like to let everyone know that he will be stabbing mister Tzu in the back once said goal is achieved and will be claiming the CFs as his own.

Personally, I love it when Elders or veteran members check into the SA to look around a bit. They usually contact us with ideas on how to improve and offer much desired advice.

Btw Yacks, go read the new Sith Core notes!

Howie has really come into his own as a Journeyman. We should make it official and give him Protector

Hrm... After a quick glance at the Core exam notes, I have a few things to point out.

In Obelisk Core, there seem to be extra asterisks used for past OHCs in the third paragraph of "Past Obelisk Leaders" heading. These notes also seem to lack links to the DB wiki, whereas Sith and Krath Core have several which help provide further information on people and events.

More importantly, given that these are new updates, why are the Order disciplines still being listed? Those were a part of the old character sheets and have since been recompiled into the five character archetypes we currently use: Juggernaut, Marauder, Inquisitor, Sorcerer, Assassin. These are no longer Order-aligned, so I feel the inclusion of this information is incorrect. The only throwback to those still in use are the Order robes Muz (and/or Shik) released years ago.

Woooo

Yeah, bitch.

nice

Aidan, thank you for the information. - Sith and Krath Core were written by one of the M:HMs - Obelisk Core was written by a PRT (who joined 2 months ago and immediately volunteered to write the course).

Rest assured, we'll get links to wiki on there. On the outdated information, we shall look into it.
