Headmistress Supplemental: Updates & Reminders

Course Updates

In my report, I mentioned that we would be updating Land Vehicles and Regions of the Galaxy once members had a chance to finish any saved exams. Hopefully you had a chance to do that if you had those exams saved. Today, we’re announcing the actual updates to those courses!

Land Vehicles

Land Vehicles is the latest course in the Combat & Warfare Department to get an overhaul by Professor Crysenia Orainn.

This course has been modernized to focus on introducing students to a variety of purpose-built combat vehicles from Star Wars canon, including a number of land vehicles that are available for purchase in our possessions system as we continue to work to integrate courses with club systems where there is natural overlap.

Regions of the Galaxy

The Regions of the Galaxy course rewrite began many moons ago when we realized it needed more than an audit to bring it up to speed with canon sources. Xantros, a former Shadow Academy Magistrate, volunteered for that task and created the initial draft for this rewrite, which now includes a wealth of material on the various regions of the galaxy, including lore and events all the way through the latest movies and other sources.

What’s Next?

We have several courses in the works, including more rewrites/updates as well as new courses, but if you happen to have an incomplete, saved Mandalorian Studies exam … I’d recommend finishing that up sooner than later.

Policy Updates

As mentioned in a recent, rare panda report, the policy for earning Scrolls of Foundation has been updated for graders! I made a few tweaks since that report, as well, to allow for incremental bonuses for turnaround time, which you can read in detail on the Scroll of Foundation page linked above.

Remember that we do also award these scrolls to members who assist in finding errors in courses and exams. If you’d like to help us with that, please use the SA Feedback Form, which you can find on the Shadow Academy menu under Reports and Feedback. Using the form allows us to keep easier track of error reports so we can assure corrections are made and members are awarded for their efforts!

Hiring

As a reminder, applications for the Professor of our Department of Leadership, Law & Communication are open through Saturday, April 3rd!

We’re looking to do a lot with the Leadership Department in the coming months, so this is a great opportunity for someone looking for a project that could have wide impact on the Brotherhood in helping to provide better resources to our future and developing leaders!

To quote from my initial report:

This is a position that grades courses with more open-ended exams on topics ranging from creating competitions to writing markdown and wiki code, so you’ll want to have taken those courses yourself and have a good understanding of the topics currently covered in the courses so that you’ll be able to grade those courses accurately and efficiently. The Shadow Academy expects a 24-hour turnaround time on most courses, so make sure you’d be able to do that and/or communicate that you’ll need help (which is totally acceptable!) in a timely manner.

As I mentioned in my year in review report, the Leadership Department is a priority project for the Shadow Academy. Many of its courses are in need of revision and overall rethinking, so I’m also going to be looking for an applicant who has some ideas in that department as well as relatively recent experience in leadership to help us make informed choices on content that would be truly helpful to aspiring and developing leaders.

I’m going to use the handy-dandy Google form to receive applications again, but be warned that the questions are fairly open-ended this time, so be prepared to write. Applications will be open for two weeks, closing on April 3.

Oh, oh! And a quick shout out again to everyone who participated in SARLACC! I’m sure you’ve seen the results by now, but have a look if you missed it. This event was a lot of fun to organize with the ACC staff, and I was so pleased to see 30 different members participate, with representation from all seven clans, including several members who were new to the ACC and new to the club.

We’ll have to see what the Academy does with all the “data” you worked so hard to procure.

Excellent! More updated courses!

Nice report!

I do love the beauty in everything being as up-to-date as possible... even if it means I get more 'retired' courses listed in my personal history. :P
