Return of the Jedi Fiction

One thing that has been lacking in our House lately is the fiction for our overall story arcs, and this is entirely my own fault. I am too much of a perfectionist, and have been struggling with a few personal demons. This has caused delays that I am in the process of rectifying. The first chapter of Sins of the Father is almost complete, I just need to make a few finishing touches, sleep on it, and then re-assess the finished draft to ensure I am happy with it. Another storyline is currently being developed involving our namesake, Lord Hoth, and we will keep you posted on how this goes.

At this stage, I am going to re-organize the Sins of the Father threads on Discourse. I’ll be giving each chapter its own thread, and maintaining the “Do Not Post In This Thread” rule. The threads will be there to keep the story together and organized, and run-ons will be occurring in their own threads.

Speaking of run-ons, I have started reading the KOA run-on and I must say, I’m thoroughly enjoying it. Nothing beats a good run-on, and I recommend everyone read the thread.

And while we are on the subject, I have started a monthly competition for free-form fiction entries, which involves you writing a fictional piece that has not been used before, and submitting it. It must mention your main DJB character, and you must be a member of House Hoth in order to place (though submissions from outsiders will still be read and enjoyed). All entries will be judged in accordance with the Voice Fiction Rubric, and the winning entry of each month will be earmarked in the year-long parent competition. Please, have fun writing whatever you like!

First Look: The Sons of Tomorrow

Sins of the Father: Chapter One is almost complete, so I will leave you with this teaser for it. Please note that credit for the lyrics goes to the lovely Skylar Grey; this is taken from I’m Coming Home Part 2, available on iTunes.

"You’re right, Liam," Elleron shouted. "The House needs its leaders."

Denath felt Elleron gather in the Force for one final act. Liam and Morotheri were thrown into the hangar, and Elleron’s lightsaber flew out, severing the external controls and sealing the door shut. The young Jedi sighed and turned to face the advancing soldiers, raising his silver blade as he recited the Jedi Code.

Shots ricocheted against the blade as one of the commanding officers took careful aim with her blaster, her brilliant blue eyes like sapphires staring down the barrel. She watched and waited, like a spider in its web, waiting for just the right moment to squeeze the trigger...

Elleron fell.

The female commanding officer kicked the boy’s body over and stared at his scarred face. Her shot had struck the right side of the Jedi’s face, and he lay there, motionless. She reached down to check for a pulse as the other soldiers rushed to the Ordain Vonoro hangar. Thanks to the brat's sacrifice, the Jedi would likely escape Cy Thuron's grasp, but she knew sooner or later, they would return with one less warrior...

And the blood will dry, underneath my nails.

Ambassador Zambeki had taken Nathan to a hospital in Vard Mislu, and with an almost sickening dread, Nathan slowly approached the only occupied bed in the room as the doctor circled around to the other side.

Nathan looked down at the unconscious body before him with a fixated curiosity. As impossible as it seemed, he was indeed familiar. "Who is he?" Nathan asked the doctor, who came to stand on the other side of the hospital bed. "We don’t know. He’s been in a coma for over a year. Our forensic expert believes he is a Jedi."

And the wind will rise up, to fill my sails.

So you can doubt...

"And he is possessed by Denath?" Turel asked in a tone bordering on ludicrous. "Formerly possessed," Nathan corrected him. "All of the medical scans show no evidence of any other consciousness in his body, and if you probe him through the Force, you can clearly feel that Denath is completely gone. It's just Elleron now."

The Togruta closed her eyes and searched her feelings, before finally nodding her agreement to Turel. The Proconsul sighed as he considered the matter carefully. "All right, I'll allow it, but I don't like it," he eventually replied. "I want him restricted to Fort Pernicar and I want you and Edgar to keep a close eye on him."

And you can hate...

Ambassador Zambeki stared at Nathan with pleading eyes. "If the Colonial Alliance finds out we've been harboring a Sith, the hospital will be closed. They'll demand answers. The scandal will destroy us. Please, master Jedi, you must [do something to help us."

But I know, no matter what it takes...

"Ambassador Zambeki was found murdered today, in an apparent murder suicide involving her husband of twenty years, Doctor Mokhan. Tythonian authorities have been very tight-lipped about the circumstances of her death for fear of alarming the Jedi, whom the Ambassador worked closely with. The diplomatic community has been devastated by the doctor’s quote, 'uncharacteristic and sudden-'"

I'm coming home, I'm coming home,

An astonished silence echoed around the room as the young man walked inside the Arca Praxeum for the first time in years. Clothed once again in simple Sandstorm robes, and with his blond hair neatly trimmed, Elleron Morakei almost bashfully approached the Togruta Consul of Clan Arcona, bowing a little shakily to the gathered Summit.

Tell the world I'm coming home.

Let the rain wash away,

Whenua and his son smiled as they raised their cups to Nathan and Edgar. "Working with Jedi, look forward we do," his son hesitantly announced. "Look forward to peace, we do." The two Odanites returned the smile. The first major diplomatic hurdle had been crossed, and despite the repercussions of his son's future, the Jedi felt positive that the Treaty would hold.

all the pain of yesterday.

I know my kingdom awaits,

"Welcome to Fort Pernicar," Nathan said, clapping a hand on the slightly older boy's shoulder as he took in the colosseum. "As far as prisons go, it is quite spectacular," Elleron quipped from behind the steel half-mask that hid his scars. "Try not to think of it like that. I'm not going to hold you responsible for whatever Denath has done to this Clan or to any other. I know you are not him." Elleron offered him a thankful smile that was betrayed by the doubtful look in his eyes.

and they've forgiven my mistakes.

I'm coming home, I'm coming home,

A'lora's brow creased as more images flashed in her mind: pain, suffering, death; Harakoans lay strewn across a bloody field, Jedi fought Jedi under the sound of stomping machines, and behind it all was a single face. Concealed by a steel mask, worn tightly and engraved with an ornate design, the glow of fire, the stench of death and an aura of fear emanated from the one who wore the mask. Behind all the chaos, all the suffering, it was this individual who would bring the Clan to its knees... but who was it?

Tell the world I'm coming...

Still far away...

Spread throughout the massive factory, machines built machines for as far as his eye could see. Had they been operating all this time? Battle droids and more advanced war machines were gathered together in brigades, and it was clear to him that this was not just an army, it was an apocalypse; a remnant of an ancient kingdom built for one sole purpose: to crush the Jedi, once and for all.

The dark-skinned Krath assassin observed them carefully, taking in the sight from behind his steel mask. Even as an Alpha-class NXG2 clone, in full body armor with his lightsabers at his side, D'hak knew he was no match for an army this size. That left only one option: he would have to hunt and kill the one responsible for building this army. He would need a way to New Tython.

...from where I belong.

But it's always darkest...

The young, blond man glared at the mirror in front of him. Dressed in a simple, light garment, he studied his face carefully. It was the first time he had seen the scars, and he traced across it with one finger. Feeling his anger rise, his pupils appeared to enlarge; black tendrils as dark as space itself crept outwards, covering his irises before staining the sclera, transforming his eyes into holes of absolute darkness. The mirror shattered before him as he flicked out with the Force.

...before the dawn.

The Nutshell

Following a discussion with Liam and Edgar, I’ve decided to emulate the Proconsul Pie that Turel has made famous. I’ll be shooting a quick email every Monday, and will be replacing every third or fourth one with my House report for the month. I feel this will help to bridge the gap that I always suffer in not communicating enough with you, my members, and will help to keep me visible and accountable. So, expect a short email every Monday.

Since we’re all a little nuts, and I am definitely a fan of nuts, I introduce: the Nutshell. Everything happening in House Hoth, in a nutshell. Ok, it will be in an email, but Nutshell will be in the title.

I may even go so far as to write the competitions update myself rather than just copy/paste from Turel, but I make no promises.

Nice Report and can't wait to get Hoth going in the right direction.

Tea on Tython actually finishes at the end of the server day today. You've still got about nine hours. As Mako would say, get it GET IT!

Great report Hoth, excited to see where you are headed. And cut/paste from me anytime! :P no need to reinvent the wheel.
