I can think of nothing more important than the safety and security of every citizen of the Severian Principate. Something we can best assure by our stronger military presence here.

— Varryn Antillus
Chancellor of Capital Enterprises

The Collective's attempt to frame the Brotherhood for attacks on Severian Principate targets in the Lyra-3K-a system has been undermined by evidence that the attackers did not truly belong to the Brotherhood. The Principate remains wary, however, and has deployed more ships from its 5th Fleet to secure the system. As the Collective continues to sow doubt by fighting off its own false-flag attacks, some elements of the Principate fleet take their side and target Brotherhood forces in blatant disregard of their orders. Meanwhile, the Inquisitorius has uncovered a new Collective plot to target the leaders of the Seven Clans.

Choose Your Adventure

Your entry has the chance to shape the direction of the War’s storyline. Your task is to choose 1 of 2 separate objectives to write about for your entry. The objective that garners the most entries will be used to steer the War storyline into a related course of events. Each of the objectives offers you the opportunity to write from the perspective of Brotherhood forces, or from the perspective of forces opposed to the Brotherhood.

Objectives

Participants must use one of the following two prompts to craft their entry.

Objective 1: FIGHT THE PRINCIPATE MUTINEERS

The Collective has defended Principate targets against its own false-flag attacks, deceiving Principate forces into believing that the Collective is supporting them against the bloodthirsty Brotherhood. Although the Principate's leaders have ordered their forces not to engage directly against the Brotherhood, some officers in the 5th Fleet have chosen to side with the Collective and are now in open mutiny.

Write from the perspective of Severian Principate 5th Fleet mutineers or your main or alternative character:

Either aid the Principate and deal a setback to the Collective by destroying or detaining the mutineers, OR write from the perspective of the mutineers and fight back against the Brotherhood. Where this occurs and how is up to the writer.

Choosing this prompt will divert Brotherhood resources away from defending the Clan leaders and makes an alliance between the Brotherhood and the Principate MORE likely.

Mutineer Personnel

  • Jorde'ya Marwar - Leader of the 5th Fleet Border Patrol.
  • Amara Cirrus - Head of Security for Lyra Colony.
  • Captain Crimson - Poster Soldier for the Liberation Front, head of Recruiting and Training for the Collective.
  • Emery Rose - Ace fighter pilot for the Collective, fighting alongside the 5th Fleet mutineers.

Objective 2: DEFEND YOUR CLAN LEADERS

The Inquisitorius has intercepted secret Collective communications indicating that the leaders of the Brotherhood's Seven Clans are being targeted for assassination. Your Clan's leaders are in grave danger and may not yet be aware of the plot.

Write from the perspective of a Collective assassin or your main or alternative character.

Either defend your Clan's leaders from assassination, OR write from the perspective of the Collective agents sent to kill them. Where this occurs and how is up to the writer.

Choosing this prompt will divert Brotherhood resources away from aiding the Protectorate and makes an alliance between the Brotherhood and the Principate LESS likely.

Note that the targeted leader may be either your Consul or Proconsul. Rogues may choose any Clan's leader(s) but the choice must be clear in the entry. Some Consul/Proconsul characters have been written as outside the Lyra system during the War so far; your entry should focus on the Lyra system and minor continuity issues based on the location of a character will not impact grading.

Collective Personnel

Rules

In order to have your fiction count as a vote for your objective of choice, your entry must contain a [Objective X] tag in the submissions file name, or the document itself. Any entry that does not include an Objective tag will not count towards voting, but is still eligible for participation/placement.

Example: [Objective 1]BestFictionEver.pdf

  • Participants must submit entries in .pdf, .doc, or .docx format, or use the submission text field (markdown capable).
  • Entries must be a minimum of 500 words. Any entries that are under 500 words will be Disqualified and ineligible for participation or placement.
  • There is no maximum word cap.
  • Your story should be centered on your Main or Alternative character or on an appropriate Collective or Severian Principate NPC as allowed by the Objective you choose. Slotted NPCs, Wikipedia NPCs, or other characters that you create or invent to tell your story are allowed and encouraged. However, your narrative should focus around either your Main or Alternative character or your selected faction NPC.
  • If writing from the perspective of your main character or alternative character, a snapshot of your Main or Alternative character loadout must be selected and submitted with your entry. Failure to attach a snapshot will prevent you from placing. If writing from an NPC, make that explicitly clear.

Grading

Grading will be done utilizing the Fiction Rubric.

Objective 1: FIGHT THE PRINCIPATE MUTINEERS

Hilgrif looked at the date that Jorde’ya Marwar sent him of the Esk Regiment first and the fourth battalions as both were now in open mutiny as they lost some
of their units in one of the fake Brotherhood attacks. Hilgrif then click a video feed that was in the file. The video showed the 2 battalion commanders standing up then the one on the right with the rank of first battalion commander stepped forward then spoke

“Major Jorde’ya Marwar, this commander Frank of the first battalion,Esk regiment. I am my men refuse to stand down from this blatten attack from the Iron Throne. Just because senate wants to get better trade deals with the Iron Throne me and my men will not let our brothers that died in there attack on this outpost go to waste. We will hunt down the fanatics that have killed our brothers and we will make them pay in blood. Theollective agents who came to our rescue our now taking us to one of their outpost and after that we will report back for crime of mutiny to you Major Jorde’ya Marwar but only after we avenge our fallen brothers. We ask you as a brother do not stop us.” The first commander step back.

The commander on the left side with the rank of 4th battalion commander stepped forward and said in a regretful but steady voice, “ This is the fourth battalion commander Sanko. Me and my men agree with them I am sorry it came to this but the blood of our brothers must be paid for.” He then saluted shortly before the video feed had ended. Hilgrif shook his head these fools think they would get back and maybe get less punishment because they sent a message before the mutiny. They were fools besides they would never get back. Hilgrif then sent a message to Jorde’ya Marwar “We will deal with it.” Hilgrif then sent a satellite feed of that location on the planet then rewind it till he saw the transports they got on. Hilgrif had used the satellite to locate the base that were shown in the images and where they were going. Hilgrif then called the outpost commander and said “this is Hilgrif of the hive and of Naga Sadow. You got 2 battalions of fools coming to attack your outpost. Try to take them alive for the trade talks but if not kill them i do not care.“

Hilgrif then hung up and hope the outpost would listen. Hilgrif saw after about 10 mins a couple of squads of fighters take off and fly to the transports. The transports tried fighting back but after losing one fourth of them and not taking down any of the fighters they seem to give up and looked like they were escorted back to the 5th fleet main command location. .Hilgrif shook his head at that group of foolish troops then went back to see if there was any more trouble to deal with in the reports

Objective 2: DEFEND YOUR CLAN LEADERS
Snapshot: https://www.darkjedibrotherhood.com/members/10311/snapshots/1740/3279

**Karma**

"Bentre!" Locke yelled, struggling to be heard over the sound of blaster fire. They were on Lyra's surface now, and the conflict was at full tilt. "Bentre!" Locke shouted again. He could see the Consul, several dozen meters away. The man didn't turn.

Locke had intel that indicated an assassin was after the Consul. He didn't want the man to die. If it had been one of the more destructive members of the Clan, then sure, but not Bentre. Bentre was a good Consul.

And he could be killed at any moment.

Finally, Locke gathered the Force. He wanted his voice to be louder. He did not know much about how his own biology worked, but he understood the Force, and he understood his instincts. He inhaled, filling his lungs with both air and the Force. He strengthed his throat. He formed the word in his chest and pushed it out, letting it erupt from his lips so hard that he made his own ears ring.

"Bentre!"

The Consul turned, saw Locke, and frowned. He ignored the confused look of his aides and rushed up to Locke, grabbing the other man's arm. "I told you to stay on the ship," he growled. "Especially after that stunt you pulled."

"Bentre," Locke said, ignoring that the other man held his arms. "You're in trouble. There's an assassin."

"Why should I believe you?" Bentre said. "How do I know this is not a trick?"

"Look, it's one of those Collective goons. A sniper, I think. I don't know how they expect to get you, but they could shoot from anywhere."

"How do you know this?" Bentre asked, letting go of Locke's arms.

Rubbing his arms, Locke fished out his datapad and showed the message he received. It was from a Sencara A'theri. "Look, they sent me a message. I was going to work with them to go after some other targets, but not you. And their orders are for you. Apparently."

"This is why I told you to stay on the ship," Bentre muttered.

"Hey," Locke said. "I may plot against my 'allies', but at least I'm honest and loyal with you. Got any idea how to stop her?"

"I could just step inside an AT-TE and wait. She wouldn't be able to find me then."

"Sure, great idea. Better than being out here."

It didn't take them long to find the nearest walker. Once they were inside, Bentre ordered the Sadowan troops inside to clear out, expect for those operating the walker. They hoped the assassin would still come and try to kill Bentre, and that was when they would deal with her.

After an hour, nothing had happened.

Bentre sighed. "When did you say this assassin was arriving?"

"Don't know," Locke answered. "Any time I guess."

As if on cue, a hissing sound filled the walker and smoke began to billow into it, clouding their vision.

"Oh wonderful," Locke muttered. He backed up until he was against a wall, waiting in the cramped space, trying to see if he could spot anything.

Suddenly, he felt pain on his head and everything went black.

---

When Locke later awoke, he found Bentre standing nearby and talking to one of their troops. On the other side of the compartment was a small form handcuffed and sitting on the floor.

"What did I miss?" Locke groaned.

"I waited until she hit you, then disarmed her."

"So I was her target? Did she double cross me?"

"Seems that way," Bentre said. "That's karma for you."
