High upon the peaks of mountain Or'ena, the ruins of the Velastari temple glinted in the setting sun. A loan figure sat crossed legged at the edge of the cliff, with his back to the ancient building. The winds shifted, tugging at the Miralukas' long hair and headband.

Revs reached inside of his robes and pulled out a flask. Taking a long drink, the alcohol helping fight off the feeling of being cold. " Do you know why we don't call them targets?" The voice of his first master Celevon Erinos echoed in his head. "Because a target implies that they may escape. We refer to them as deaders, because once you have accepted the contract they are dead. Failure will not be tolerated."

The words of his old teacher were quickly replaced by those of Marick Arconae. "Quit wasting time. You have one purpose, eliminate the threats and move on with your mission. We do not take prisoners, nor do we leave survivors."

Revs had been trained by some of the Brotherhood's top assassins during the time since he graduated from the Shadow Academy on Arx. His career started with killing petty criminals who were wanted dead by rival gang member. From there he would move on to take out major underworld crime lords in Port O'rval. He had fought in two wars. From fighting on the front lines, to assassinating enemy generals in their sleep. He had never questioned his training, never thought twice about taking a life. But now here with the Jedi…..things were changing.

He had come to Odan-Urr in a desperate attempt to get his younger sister away from the Shadow Clan. She had graduated at the top of her class, and the thought of his baby sister being made into a weapon or left to the hands of a Darkside user who used torture for a teaching tool made the Shadesworn sick to his stomach. Here training with the Jedi, her command of the Force had excelled. Even Revs himself had learned a few new tricks, and even found his entire outlook on things changing.

The Miralukas mind wandered to a recent mission he had run. It was a simple job, to hunt a rogue Togruta that had been harrowing a local village over whether or not they should live as farmers or hunters. It was a simple enough task. The assassin could have easily killed the target and been done with the job, but Aura had requested that he not kill the poor hunter.

The scene played out in Revs head again. The Togruta laying on the ground, the viridian blade of the Mystics lightsaber to its neck. One quick push and the job would have been over right there, but Revs stopped. The Zeltron standing behind him tensed as if waiting to see what the former Shadesworn would do. Revs still couldn't figure why he chose to spare the Togruta's life, but if it made the boss happy he guessed. Maybe he was going soft, maybe he was just getting sick of killing. Either way he decided to take his first prisoner that day. Much to Aura and the rest of the teams surprise.

Maybe it's time to turn a new page. he thought to himself. Maybe it's time to just settle down and live a peaceful life for once. Revs chuckled at the thought. "Yea and maybe I'll quit drinking and settle down. Find a good girl." He stumbled a little as he stood up, talking to himself "Or maybe I can go back to Port O'rval. Lots of good drinks and women there."

Revs turned his back to the setting sun and started to walk into the long forgotten temple. "I hope they still got some beds in here."

Trying to Prevent Disaster

Zarabi's Hunt Kiast Orbit 39 ABY

Neza-Rem Zarabi read the message on his data pad once more before stowing it in a side compartment. Then he eased the Jumpmaster 5000 out of its orbit.

As the craft entered the atmosphere it jolted slightly. Nez adjusted his angle of entry once more before he turned to input the coordinates into his navigation computer. A short silver furred humanoid creature stumbled its way thru the cockpit door and came to a stop behind Nez.

"Mornin Tig, sorry for the bumpy ride." Nez apologized to his Ewok friend.

"What's going on big man?" The Ewoks slurred statement was heavy with fatigue.

"The SeNet reached out with some intel." Nez handed the datapad over to Tig. After a quick read a creepy smile crept across the Ewok's face.

"These folks are dumb." Tig shook his head. "Back in my day pirates were smart enough to steer clear of Jedi, now they want to kidnap the big cheese. Dumb."

Nez shrugged at his companion before hitting a few more buttons. A sudden thought occurred to Nez.

"What do you mean 'back in my day'?"

Essadan Spaceport Kiast 39 ABY

Upon landing in the city the SeNet had identified, Nez paid the Portmaster his docking fee. He left Tig to deal with the refueling and maintenance crews and with a wave he was gone. The Jedi disappeared in the crowds, moving smoothly thru the crowd as he went.

Nez arrived at the meet up location for the SeNet operative early. He scoped out the small office building and identified three escape routes. Two doors and one large window that wad covered by a roll down shield.

The Jedi reached out with his senses and with the assistance from the Force could tell there were no lifeforms in the building.

After checking that the building was clear he reached out to his surroundings in the same manner. Aside from the normal passerby there was nothing out of the ordinary. The mystic sat and waited for the meet up time to arrive and pass.

Nez was not a patient man so in a nonchalant fashion he made his way to the door and entered the corner office building. The shop was pretty unassuming with trinkets on the shelves all over.

The entire room was also all covered in a thick layer of dust. On the floor small tracks could be seen. Nez followed them to a corner where an R3 astromech sat plugged into a power supply.

Nez turned to head back to the front of the store when the Astromech powered on. Nez turned to the custom painted black and orange Droid only for it to roll up to him and start an audio recording.

"Mystic Neza-Rem Zarabi of Tython Squadron, call sign. Warpath." The voice was augmented by a voice changer but it was definitely a prerecorded message. "This astromech is R3-D6. He will take you to the Pirates base and get you an audience with their captain. Beyond that it's up to you to do what you see fit. Good luck."

The recording abruptly ended and the audio recording device ejected out of the Droid and sparked as it destroyed itself.

'Freaking spies always have the best gear.' Nez thought to himself.

Nez followed the Droid out of the door he entered thru and the pair made their way to the outskirts of town.

Nestled into the side of a small Spaceport of the floating island was a pilot bar. Two security guards stood out front with blaster rifles strapped across their chests. The boisterous noise from inside the building roared out of the single open bay door.

Nez and the R3 Droid approached the two guards and were stopped and asked for identification. R3 provided the credentials illiciting a stare from the two guards who looked the man behind the R3 in Mandalorian armor up and down. One if the two radioed in to some unseen security who, after a few moments, replied to allow them access.

Nez entered the loud hangar bay, turned bar, and gave a glance around. His eyes rested on the leader of the Pirates. He wore old republic commando armor with no helmet. His brown hair was streaked with Grey around his ears and his tanned skin was pristine. None of this man's visage surprised Nez. He had many dealings with all sorts of scoundrels. What piqued his curiosity was the lightsaber hanging off his hip next to a blaster pistol.

A runner snaked his way thru the crowd to the man who was laughing with his men. Whatever was said startled the leader and caused him to pass a worried glance over the armored figure standing with his Droid. With a wave of his hand all the noise in the establishment quieted except for one unfortunate Twilek. The pirate leader pulled his blaster and shot the twilek in the head silencing his cackled forever.

The tension in the room skyrocketed as everyone stated at the corpse and then their leader who was still staring at Nez.

"What may I ask is the reason for the untamed visit. We told the collective representative they sent that we would get it done and tomorrow we plan to launch ournoperation."

'Well now I know why they are so brave to go after Revak.' Nez thought to himself. He had to think on his feet.

"I don't know what the Droid told your guards but I'm not from the collective." Nez let the words hang in the air as he readied himself for a fight. "I am actually here to see if we can't persuade you to our side."

"Who is we?" The pirate leader leaned forward in his chair as his curiosity was piqued.

"Clan Odan Urr." Nez flatly blurted out. The pirate captain sat up in his chair and the color drained from his face as he rested his hand on his blaster. For a few tense moments Nez kept his mind on pulling g his Saber to his hand but the fight never came. The leader raised both hands and chuckled to himself.

"Your famed Sentinel Network really is good." The pirate waved his hands at the crew to sit back down. In the moment Nez had not noticed that every person in the bay laid their hands on their blasters. "So what is you counter offer?"

"Well first you don't start and all out war with Odan urr on a planet you can't keep with a political entity that isn't beholden to any government on this planet." Nez paused as he thought, "Second the Vitali don't come down on whatever routes you run and third I don't have to kill anyone."

The room went nuts with cursing and yelling and laughter.

'I guess if you don't get results asking nicely use a little force.' Nez reached out into the group around him with the Force and into their mind. He pulled one emotion from the depths of their mind. Sheer terror. The ones who were not accustomed to the intrusion fell to their knees or off their chairs while the stronger minded ones stood slowly and back away. The captain sat very still. The look on his face never changed.

"It's a neat trick Jedi but you folk are peace keepers and aren't violent without provocation."

"You threatened to abduct my Mentor and friend, I ask you to test that assumption at your earliest convenience." Nez's lightsaber appeared in his hand and ignited. Not a hair on anyone's head moved after the whizzing activation of the lightsaber. All eyes were on the Jedi to see what he would do.

"I suggest you disappear from this sector before you are removed violently." The growl in Nez's voice was enough of a threat but his words drove it home. The pirate captain just nodded as sweat dripped down his temples.

Nez deactivated his Saber and canceled his connection to their fear. The building let out a collective sigh as the Jedi walked out of the building and vanished into the crowd.

"What do we do boss?" The first mate was the first to speak.

"The collective already paid us right?" The pirate captain kept his eyes on the door.

"Yes bossman."

"Then I suggest we fuel up and make ourself scarce." The pirate captain downed his drjnk and left thru the hangar bay doors to the adjacent hangar.

Aboard the Zarabi's Hunt Essadan Spaceport Kiast 39 ABY

"Hey Tig have they hit hyperspace yet." Nez was reclined against the bulkhead as the Ewok watched the monitor.

"Theg just jumped," Tig looked at Nez, "to Tatooine. What did you do to get them to leave the planet?"

"Oh just some persuasion tactics I picked up." Nez chuckled.

"You threatened them didn't you?" The Ewok retorted flatly. Tig was more stating a fact than he was asking. He knew how his fellow Jedi operated and he wasn't surprised when Nez smiled back at him.

"Alls well that ends well." Nez replied as he took another pull from his drink. "Send my report to the SeNet along with their ship identifiers. I want to know if they ever approach orbit again.

"Yes big man."

I sit beside the fire and think of all that I have seen. I look upon the flames and see people I have known, People I have loved, people I have lost. Memories swirl through my mind like the smoke from the fire, Drifting away, or choking me.

I try not to have regrets, but I fail. Lives I have affected for better or worse, Lives that affected me. The memories haunt my psyche, dancing across my brain, Like the fire I sit beside, as I think.

I sit beside the fire and think The flitting thoughts of aged mind Like our world, burning, on the brink While my soul drifts forth to find The End.

I sit beside the fire and ponder Before the curtain call of life How our animal race does squander Upon this world, we conquer by the knife And shatter balance once known At the Beginning.

I sit beside the fire and dose Eyes closed, breathing shallow My heart flutters gently upon embers fallow A final reflection before the close. This our Earth we do not keep In condition made for peaceful sleep Greed and strife which our leaders reap Must be stopped before we dig the graves of future folk Too deep.

I sit beside the fire and think, thoughts fleeting yet still so distinct. So many things pass through my mind, some harsh, some soft, some cruel, some kind.

Popping wood and flickering flames, so many long forgotten names. Burning bright for all its life, Does this fire share our strife?

Feed the flames or they die out, without a whimper or a shout. Flashing color, fleeting thought, In the end, all for naught.

If the fire burns, it remains, going on despite the pains. If I think, I am still here, going on despite the tears.

Here is the doc. My computer is failing to download it as a PDF due to a weird failing to scan for viruses error. So I made a copy of the original doc to submit it since I hope to continue the fic on the original doc after this comp. I ran out of time and wasn't able to write all I wanted, but I have this.

Von Ricore let out a long drawn out sigh as he leaned back in his chair. While the majority of the Clan Embassies were rather spartan in nature it was not too arduous for the massive humanoid to convince the Dark Ascent guards of the necessity for a piece of furniture that could hold his larger frame. Serving as a one time guard to Marick during his tenure as voice and his credentials with the Shadow Academy helped to prove his loyalty, at least enough to get him a damn chair. “But it wasn’t enough to speed this process up.” Von mumbled to himself. With the conflict between the Severian Principate and Tenexir Revenants simmering to a halt many wondered what future lay in store for The Unknown regions comprising Brotherhood Space. The Clan Vizsla information network, a series of criminals, bounty hunters and ne’er do wells, had been abuzz with rumor. It appeared the Dark Council were planning something known as Operation RAPTORSTRIKE. Some other fool may have made a massive mistake, attempting to torture the info out of guards, or break into the Dark Ascent. Von had no intention of making himself a martyr on this day. Instead he requested an audience with the Dark Council which led him to his current situation, lounging in a chair with mind numbing boredom as he waited to be summoned to the council chamber. After what felt like an eternity Von was jolted out of his daydreaming by a knock at the door. Answering it, he found himself face to face with a Royal Guard in black armor armed with a force pike. “The council will see you now.” The guard announced, their voice muffled by a voice modulator to protect their identity. Von nodded and followed the guard out of the room. Despite no longer having the ability to use the Force he couldn’t help the ominous feeling growing within him. Perhaps it was merely a phantom sensation but the hybrid couldn’t help but feel nervous about the meeting. He was going to be in a room with some of the strongest Force users the galaxy had ever known. And that was more than a little unnerving. The pair entered the lower level turbolifts. Neither dared to speak out of a mixture of duty, respect, and a little bit of fear. The lifts arrived at the upper level. The pair exited and trekked down a series of hallways filled with black robed royal guards. The duo then arrived at the opulent Antechamber of the Dark Council. Beskar ornaments acted as a showcase to the wealth of the Brotherhood, proof that the Council could afford to waste the expensive and valuable metal on pointless trinkets. 8 Royal Guards in Black Praetorian Guard Armor, the Elite of the Elite, guarded this chamber. The guard escorting Von tapped their force pike on the ground 8 times. In response; one of the Praetorian guards inserted a code cylinder into a terminal, opening the way forward. The duo continued down that hallway entering a vast empty cavern. The room was empty except for a set of spiraling stairs which lead upward.

“Ascend the stairs. The council is waiting.”

Von did as he was asked; carefully ascending the winding staircase. At the top he saw a room with thrones arranged in a semicircle. Most were empty, save the center throne, occupied by a short human with amber hair and eyes.

“Darth Nehalem.” Von exclaimed as he prostrated himself before the leader of the Brotherhood.

“Now, now. There’s no need for that. Rise Von Ricmore.”

“But my lord…I.”

The Sith Lord held up a hand to silence him. “I appreciate your attempt to stand on ceremony but there is no need to debase yourself. I have things to do and it will be far better for the both of us if we get this audience over with.”

Von was visibly taken aback. Schooling his expression he refused to allow the Sith to get to him. “Yes my lord. You see I have sought an audience regarding…”

“Operation Raptorstrike.” The Sith interrupted once again. “I am aware. James foresaw your arrival several weeks ago. You have good timing Ricmore. The Brotherhood requires your services. The presence of the Crystal Soldiers used by our enemies is worrisome. But we’ve come up with a ritual of our own. Using it on any ordinary sentient would likely lead to a berserk trooper, a mindless brute like the crystal soldier. But you? A Force user who lost his connections to the Force. It may just be what you need to rekindle it. Will you take the risk, Von?”

“Of course sir. Just tell me what I have to do.”

A sinister smile spread across Evant’s face. “Excellent. Most excellent indeed.”

Unknown Planet

Von knelt in the circle formed from Sith Alchemy; Devoid of all clothes except a loincloth. An acolyte stepped forward, bucket in hand.

“With this liquid you are cleansed of your past. Your mistakes, your triumphs, nothing will shackle you any longer.” The acolyte doused Von with the unknown liquid. His red skin took on a green tinge as the glowing green liquid flowed across his body.

“But power can not be gained without cost. An anchor is required, a chain to bind you until you have the strength to break it.” A different acolyte stepped near the circle and handed Von a Sith Alchemy dagger. The hybrid raised the blade and took a deep breath to steady himself. He brought the dagger down, cutting and tearing his left eye from the socket.

“AHHHHH!” He screamed out in agony. Blood oozed from the wound, which ran down his face and dripped onto the alchemical circle. The circle began to glow an insidious, smoky, green.

“With that sacrifice, that anchor, you can now bear host to the strength that you deserve.” A third acolyte stepped forward gripping a small case. Opening it, Von’s remaining eye saw a purple Kyber crystal covered in Sith Alchemical runes, fashioned into the shape of an eye. The acolyte handed Von the item.

The hybrid brought the eye to his face, slotting it into the socket with a pained grunt. Magic beyond his understanding fused the artificial eye. Von screamed until his voice broke and he could scream no more. All the pain he felt was secondary to a new emotion, happiness. He could feel it. He could feel the Force again.

Darth Nehalem was beside himself with joy. It had worked. “This is only the beginning.”

Mount Dahkan Aeotheran Orian System

Malisane looked round the room, his eyes focusing on Deckard Kaelen First Minister of of the Aeotheran government. “I am displeased with this unrest in the outer sectors Minister,” he said coldly, “production targets are down. This will not be tolerated.” The usually confident and placid official looked nervously back at the heavily scarred Sith. “I agree Governor,” he replied, “the Aeotheran Security Force are working to contain it, however production has spread across the planet faster than we are able to adapt our security patrols, we have limited resources.” “I do not want to hear excuses Minister,” Malisane replied, “when we established the government it was designed to work together, to balance profit with stability. You have an entire bureaucracy designed to work together to achieve that aim. If it is imbalanced that is your failing and your subordinates.” “I understand Governor,” the man replied. Malisane turned to the female officer in the room. “Commander Miros, you will assign a battalion to assist the ASF. You will also meet with their officers and make it clear what is expected of them. Any who do not give you confidence you may remove.” “Yes Governor.” she replied coldly. Malisane turned to the final person present. “Commodore, what is our fleet status?” Commodore Krill clicked a button and figures appeared in front of them. “We have near maximum personnel Governor,” he replied, “and all ships have reported as operational. We have had to reassign Task Force Besh from Inos to Aeotheran to plug the gap in our planetary security caused by the loss of the skyhook.” The Sith scowled. “I understand. What our our fleet facilities?” Krill shrugged. “Again, we have had to move our resupply and repairs functions to the main clan bases until we establish a permanent solution. This has delayed operations somewhat.” “Very well,” Malisane replied, “anything else?” “No Governor, you will receive a formal report.” “Then you are dismissed.”

A short while later Malisane stood on the balcony of his quarters, looking out across the snow surrounding the mountain the Dakhan house had made their home. He was unusually pensive. Recent events had bothered him. On the face of it getting away from the bureaucracy of running the House and its planet had been a welcome break, and away from the usual members he had just been another fighter amongst the pirates and the members of the other clans. It had been good. However the fact so many of his clan had taken up with the Severians, who were dubious allies at least based on recent history, still bothered him. There had been justifications from others, especially in the Summit, and some had seemed as genuinely sad he had joined the Tenixir as others had been pleased he was not going to be with them. It bothered him though. The Clan had no business supporting those who had betrayed the Brotherhood in the past and would again when it suited them.

The loss of Marakith was also irritating. When he had been persuaded to return the skyhook a year earlier he had never intended it to be a permanent solution. After all that had happened to it the station had not been what it was, and confidential engineers reports cast doubt it could be maintained much longer than a year or so before it became mothballed. It more bothered him that having recaptured, the Orian system had once again so nearly fallen. And one of their most secure facilities had been taken. This was despite the Clan fleet being stronger than it ever had been. Perhaps the leadership ought to be focusing on that rather than shoring up supposed allies?

He turned as he heard a beep at his door. He walked through the balcony doors and into the sparsely decorated room. “Enter.” His Aedile entered. Adept Sanginius Entar had been working with the Sith for a year and to be honest there was no closeness between them. Malisane respected that the former Consul had stepped up when the position had been vacant but that was all. For the best part Malisane was content for the Adept to partly look after the members and partly carry out his duties for the Shadow Academy on Nesolat. As far as he could tell the Aedile was happy Malisane was not often around and left the running of the house and planet to himself and the military and civilian officials. “Was there something Adept?” Sanguinius shook his head. “Nothing of importance, Quaestor,” he replied, “all members have returned safely from Dandoran. We have no casualties or major injuries.” “That is satisfactory,” Malisane replied, “was there anything else?” “No not as such,” the Elder replied, “I am due to return to Nesolat in the morning. I was planning on attending the meeting with the Senior Staff before I turn in though, I thought I would check in with you first.” “I have attended to it Aedile,” Malisane replied, “they have departed for their duties." Sanguinius raised an eyebrow, “You attended it?” Malisane met the elders gaze. “I did. Is that a problem Aedile?” The passive Elder shook his head. “No, you usually show no interest though.” The Quaestor shrugged. “I am looking to take care of more. Things are going well here on Aeotheran, but they can improve. And you have your many duties with the Shadow Academy and Regents office. We will have to see about lightening your load here.” Sanguinius looked unusually nonplussed. “Very well. We will see how that goes, I suppose.” “Good,” Malisane replied calmly, “then I will not detain you. If you see Malik tell him I want to see him.” Sanguinius nodded and left.

A short while later the other Adept entered the room. “You wished to see me Malisane?” “Yes Malik,” he replied. In truth he was no closer to the Neti that he was to the others in the House, but he had been not close to him for much longer. “I have the assignments for Sapphire Squadron.” He produced a datapad. The experienced elder looked them over slowly, and then his eyes raised up to meet the Quaestor's. “This is just routine surveillance and crew motivational training,” he replied. “And?” “It is hardly work for our members. And reasonably experienced ASF agent or personnel advisor could carry these out.” “It is good to keep our members busy Malik,” Malisane countered. “It will take up much of their time and take them away from the Mountain or their other homes. It will be greatly unpopular.” “Perhaps,” Malisane replied, “but being a member of Sapphire Squadron brings many privileges and authority for its members. If necessary remind them of that.” The Neti did not scowl or even change his placid features. He merely studied the Sith coldly. “As you wish, Quaestor.” Malisane nodded. “That is all sorted then.” “Was there anything else?” Malik asked. “Yes,” the Sith replied,” Commodore Krill informs me is has been necessary to pull our forces back from Inos to strengthen them here. With recent events with the Sigmas and the Unchained we should not turn our back on that area and get caught out again. I would like you to take the Satyr and do a routine patrol. See if you can sense anything that may be of concern to us. Take your time there is a lot of territory to cover.” The Neti's features finally cracked. “You want me to do that? A patrol?” Malisane nodded. “Yes. No one else in the House or perhaps even the Clan has your unique abilities. I would trust no one more. I have ordered the cruiser to prepare to depart in the morning. They will be waiting for you.” Malik looked directly into the Sith's eyes, and Malisane felt the Neti's mind brush against his own. “Very well, it will be as you wish.” He gave a stiff bow and left.

Malisane waited for him to go and then touched the communicator on his desk. “Get me Commander Miros on a secure channel.” There was a pause and a hologram appeared showing the the cold features of the officer in charge of the House's ground forces” “Yes Governor?” she asked with a salute. “I have some surveillance targets for you Commander,” Malisane told her, “I will send you details and the methods I want using.”
