Clan Arcona Consul Report #3: We Live, We Die, We Live Again!

header

Hello, my darling dears! I hope you all are doing well. ‘tis the season for final exams, graduations, and, most of all, change.

And also this.

Okay, okay, enough rocking out. On to business!

So This Is the Part Where You Tell Me To Pay Attention...

"Shut up and pay attention!"

There, done! I mean, uh, what? :P

Much of the last month or so has been all you gorgeous snowflakes throwing yourself into competitions and projects while the DC, staffers, and Consuls alike all got to lots of discussing and arm waving with each other, heh. There’s so much in development on the way, and so much changing! Let me tell you, I’m excited for the future. You can get a look at some of what’s upcoming and what’s been going on in Mav’s excellent report that discusses activity tracking, Paths, and Orders, along with mentioning our very own co-op event.

Meanwhile, there’s been some other openings and shifts around the Brotherhood. Due to time constraints, Shad stepped down as Voice, and applications were opened for most of May. Sarin released the Dark Council's decision in his latest report. Evant is our new Voice, and Slagar our new Wiki-Tribune. Congrats! Let's see some great things!

Across the metaphorical pond...er...vast reaches of the galaxy...Clan Naga Sadow and Clan Scholae Palpatine just completed their own joint event! You can check out the results here if you’re curious. It’s pretty dang awesome to see other units working together too, like we are with Odan-Urr. But don’t worry. I’ll talk more about that again later. ;)

Meanwhile, along with some other unit openings, Clan Scholae Palpatine is looking for a new Proconsul. If you're interested, check it out, and keep your eyes on the newspage to see any other potential openings.

Other news, reports, and happenings:

Be sure to keep a look out for your House and Battleteam reports, and also keep your eyes on the Newspage! You’ll want to keep up with new developments like changes in Paths, Orders, and Character Sheets, and it’s always a good idea to check in on your fellow Clans. All the other units write awesome reports too! (I know, I know, none have graphics as pretty and ribbony as this one, but give them a chance.)

The Part Where Things Start Changing

As some of you guys and gals will know from reading your emails (you’re reading your emails, right? Right? :D), House Galeres has gone through a couple leadership changes! You can expect to see some more of these in the coming month as we evaluate where we’re at as a Clan and see a few folks bid us goodbye for that magical thing called Real Life, but fear not: goodbye is only “for now,” and we’ll keep on being awesome like always.

But, for now, I present to you Galeres’ newest Aedile, Uji. Many of you know him as Donny, or, before that, S’nar. He was previously a Battleteam Leader, most recently of Nighthawk. Taking the captain’s chair in his stead will be Kordath. As Esca said, these gents have the skills and activity to do a fine job, and we happily welcome them to the Summit!

Meanwhile, Ernordeth is stepping away from Aedilehood to focus on his ever-present duties as a FIST staff hardballer. We thank Ernor for being his wonderful self, for his work thus far, and for stepping up when the Clan needed him.

Let’s hear some hoorahs, people! Things are always changing. We just gotta be proud of it.

Oh, and speaking of change...

The COU-ARC Event Continues!

(Guess what? It’s later. ;P)

Here Comes Week Three

Week One and Week Two are over and Week Three has begun. What happens next…? Look for the Final Week newspost announcement here to find out!

In Case You Missed It...

Arconan Fleet Bridge of the NSD Invicta

It was the deep breath before plunging into the unknown. The glinting sparkle of light dappling on cold water before diving into the deep silence beneath. The heartbeat before a heart stopped.

Arranged in formation against the backdrop of space zipping by at hyperspeeds, the Arcona Expeditionary Force was a magnificent sight to behold. Utilizing the standard screen formation, each ship was positioned for maximum firepower on arrival, neglecting defensive strategies. It was clear that the battle was intended to end as fast as it would begin.

It was to be a massacre...

Event Competitions

The tides are changing. Not only in the hearts and minds of the Brotherhood's individual clans, but in the Brotherhood as a whole. One can only guess at what effects the ripples will cause, what direction the currents will pull us all, and whether or not we will drown or rise to new heights…

On a smaller scale, however, wages a different war. While both Clan Odan-Urr and Clan Arcona battle unrest from within in the changing world around them, they are called together in the unlikeliest of alliances as the Clan of Light goes to the Shadow Clan for aid. But when an enemy appears that is greater than either of them can face alone, the two Clans must make a choice: unite despite their multitude of differences, or face certain death.

With so much at stake, can they succeed? Or is such a strange collaboration doomed to fail?

Find the parent competition here!

In the interest of helping with team events, we released a signups form that ran for the first week of the event. Note that the window for placement in these team events is now closed, meaning that members who sign up from now on will be ineligible for placement in team events, but can always join or form a team late and participate (this will still earn you and your Clan some points, and it's fun).

As listed in the individual competition details, the following restrictions remain in place. Note that a group will not be disqualified for placement if some team members fail to meet the minimum post requirements. Instead, that member will be disqualified from placement in the competition.

  • Teams or pairs must consist of at least one member from each Clan, so long as numbers allow (some teams are mixed)
  • For the RO, teams must have a minimum of five members, but no maximum
  • For the BP, teams must have two to six members
  • The RO and BP events last the duration of the event, and end on June 10th
  • The Co-op fiction, which held pairs of two, was for Week 2 and ended on June 3rd.

Again, you can access the form here. Please remember to sign up if you intend to participate in remaining team events!

FIND YOUR TEAMMATES HERE IF YOU HAVEN’T ALREADY. I’M SHOUTING BECAUSE I LOVE YOU. NO REALLY. Contact these people! Coordinate your ideas. We’re all here for the same reasons, so don’t be afraid to send them an email!

If you aren’t on a team and have signed up for one, please email Atyiru ([Log in to view e-mail addresses]) and A’lora ([Log in to view e-mail addresses]) to get sorted! We managed to sort members as soon as we see them sign up, but mistakes happen. Once we’re notified, we can fix these as soon as possible.

Note for the Run-On:

  • For the Run-On, create a new thread under the Run-On category of the Discourse Forums in the same fashion, labeling it [Tides of Change] Team #, filling in your team number appropriately.
  • You may put an optional team name after your team number if you wish.
  • The first/”intro” post to your thread should be used to list your team members and their dossier pins. You may also use this post to reference the competition prompt.

Want to keep track of everything, but afraid this newspost or an email will get buried? Just use this wiki hub to keep track of simple event details and competitions. It will be updated as the event progresses!

Recognition

It’s been a pretty busy month! In April, we had competitons from both Houses wrapping up, then some fun, active week between them and the current Clan-on-Clan events you’re all busting up! Accordingly, we’ve had a lot of awards coming in. Like so many. I swear I’d be jealous if I wasn’t so proud. <3

Of course, competition awards aren’t all! We’ve got a shining array of pretty new Journeymen scaling their way up the ranks, and some pretty cool extras too, like wikis and reviews! Get excited, people, because guess what? You’re fabulous!

Don’t believe me? Look here!

Guys, like, so many Protectors, just so many. Someone make me an Oprah meme of this. Lady Billowy Cloak orders it.

  • Luna Okami was awarded a Dark Side Scroll for writing this Lords of the Sith book review!

  • Terran Koul was awarded two Dark Side Scrolls for creating June’s featured wiki article and being named a Wikipedian of the Month!

  • Meanwhile, so many of you got Crescents and Clusters out the wazoo! In case you missed it, Mav’s report mentioned that Arcona got over 10,000 Clusters of Fire alone over the last three months, the most of any unit. Like, damn kids!

Accurate depiction of Arcona’s CF amazingness is accurate. Stay. Freaking. Beautiful.

Projects

Sup killas, Legz here. I don’t have a ton of project-related info for you here, as much of the focus of the past few weeks has been on the ongoing feud. There’s always a low buzz on the wiki front, and always wiki work to be done by industrious and enterprising members, both young and old. Beyond that, there’s still some broad fictional arc stuff being discussed and contemplated, and this current feud has a big hand in shaping those discussions, as does the ongoing Path development at the Brotherhood level.

The most exciting thing that I have for you -- something that the Arconan Summit has only just begun working on -- is an open Google Drive folder that will be an easily accessible, public repository of helpful documents and information. The way we’re thinking of doing it, presently, is to have a section that is locked for only Summit members to edit, and will be read-only for the general membership. This will contain a lot of the vital official documents that you’ll all want to see. The second section will be open to editing by all members, and is meant to be more of a fun, collaborative space. I want to particularly thank Wally and Esca for being the driving forces behind this initiative, and Mordamen for helping prompt it. Stay tuned for more on this project soon.

I also want to take a few brief moments to let you all know what’s up with me. I’m currently working sixty hours a week in construction for the summer, and have been juggling law school prep at the same time, as I head back to school in mid-August. That’s why I haven’t been on IRC to fool around with you guys as much as I’d like to. I’m still here, though, and I’ve been loving the great effort you’ve been putting forth in the feud. Keep Arcona-ing, Arcona.

Ask The Atty

OHHAI. It’s time again for AskTheAtty. I said in my last report that I’d be doing a Live Q&A this edition, but circumstances just didn’t allow. I swear by my name, three times, that the next report will be a Live Q&A. But, for this one, you all still had some really awesome questions, and I’m delighted to answer them.

So here. We. Go!

<Mord|AFK> What's gonna happen to Arcona after the battle?

Most likely? We’ll try not to kill each other after the big bad common enemy is obliterated. :P Really though, there’s probably going to be some discussions of alliance and some licking of wounds...but who knows, yet, if that’ll go as planned or not? ;)

<Mord|AFK> When would our next story line come out?

Story lines are always in the works, along with general fictional plotlines, but I expect another major development would be a month or so away at least. People need time to recharge after this sort of mad dash, and we had House events last month besides. Of course, that won’t dampen some folks’ energy!

<@Esca> Where do you plan to take Arcona fictionally next?

I implied this in the fiction prologue for Tides, but I want us to move more towards a gray, kind of open the environment while still retaining our trademark shadowy-ness. Or, more specifically, selfishness. That is largely the crux of Arcona’s “evil” past: a willingness to do whatever is necessary to make ourselves infinite as the darkness, if you will.

I think, however, that the Clan has evolved away from merely being Dark. I see many more possibilities in both Dark and Gray. And we, as selfish, powerful Jedi of the First Clan, ought to explore those avenues for profit. Maybe having a lightie lead you is a bit backwards...but hey, it did open a door to New Tython we might not’ve had otherwise. ;P

So, fictional goals would be to take our existing darkity-sable-black history and do it justice by making a good, evolving addition to it for present events. Nothing as drastic as “everyone is sunshine and flowers now” but certainly a step towards accepting gray areas too.

What’s your brother’s number? - Turel

Which brother? :P

(You get an answer even if you were joking.)

LockeS> AskTheAtty, how do you see the recently announced changes in the DGM report, including things such as "Enlisted" and "Mercenary" affecting Arcona in the future? Could you give us a brief rundown of how the existence of a the Grey Path may affect Arcona?

As you might imagine from my above answer about fictional direction, I see this new Gray Path and non-Force user options greatly impacting Arcona, though probably the former more than the latter for now. I know a couple people who’d be interested in “mundane” characters — I would make my next character a mundane, if I retired Atty to some nice little farm house somewhere with a dog and two cats. I’m super excited to see what kind of dynamics come into play with balancing Force-users and non-users, or, perhaps more enthralling, not balancing them. We’ll see!

As for the Gray Path affecting Arcona, I think it’s definitely one of the paths we’ll be adopting, and I imagine a good chunk of our member base will be changing their Path/Alignment accordingly when the time comes. To that end, we’ll need to get some fictional pieces in place and established, and I’ll be looking for some volunteers, eventually, to dig into it.

<Turel|AFK> In light of the path changes recently announced, which three paths do you see Arcona taking?

My above answers may imply this, but I see at least one slot going to the Gray Path and one to Dark. What the third will be will likely be some cause for debate, and largely depends on what you, our people, want. The last time I put out a survey, the sample pool of the Clan that responded was divided in half between Dark and Grey. What that third slot goes to depends on which we want more of.

Me, personally? I have pipe dreams of a Light path one day, but I know they’re merely a fancy. My bet is on two Gray slots and one Dark, or, in a more traditionalist forum, two Dark and one Gray.

Timeros, on Whatsapp: What’s WallyCat’s number?

I don’t know. Wally still won’t tell me. Jerk. :P

<Turel|AFK> What is the biggest lesson you've learned from Tides of Change (COU-ARC event)?

Oh, frak, a lot, haha. This event has been a big adventure, and I’ve heard a lot of feedback I’m going to use to help me improve events like it in the future. (I’ll also be releasing a feedback form when things are over that I’d love people to fill out. It can only help you!)

I’d like to say something semantic, like that I learned that working with another Clan is awesome — which it totally is. But the thing that honestly pops to mind is to a) form teams before an event begins if there are to be teams and b) know the single truth is that no one will be happy.

The latter might seem like common sense, but you’ve really got to hold on to that grain of salt when the complaints start, and take it all in stride with a grin. You can only do better next time!

As for the former...well, I think everyone can agree that things with team events were a little tiresome and messy. But, as said, we do better on the next go ‘round and keep our heads held high. We’ve got tigerblood, after all. ;)

Oh, and also, that “big team” ROs simply shouldn’t be done. :P But really, I’ve loved this event, I’ve loved running it with COU’s summit, and I hope you all enjoy it in the end too.

<Turel|AFK> Do you ever find yourself wishing Turel was straight because of how awesome he is?

God, every day.

And that’s a rap for now, guys! Tune in next time!

In Closing

Be hopeful for the future, my friends. We’ve got some big changes coming. We’ve got alignment shifts and canon changes and system development like it ain’t nobody’s business. We’re evolving. I don’t know about you, but I’m excited. I get to enjoy it with you guys and gals, after all.

And as for the present...be proud, be loud, and be awesome. It’s Arcona. That’s what we do.

Arcona Invicta!

P.S. Fury Road was the shit.
