Consul Report: DON'T PANIC

“Perhaps I'm old and tired, but I always think that the chances of finding out what really is going on are so absurdly remote that the only thing to do is to say hang the sense of it and just keep yourself occupied.”
Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

Well, here we are. The numbers have rolled in, the dust has settled. And now we are just waiting for the results of this last Great Jedi War. The big fifteenth GJW is over. I hope that all of you had as much fun and a lot less stress than I experienced. Many of us put our best foot forward, and now here I am to talk to you all a bit about it. Some things are still up in the air, but I will try to guide you through what we know now. Not a great lot on that front just yet as things still churn on in the background with the DC, but I wanted to at least hold up some names.

Also, got a bit near the end. I will warn you all, this report is a long one.

Proconsul Corner

I remember when the dates for the WAR were first released. I thought “Holy crapola, that is gonna be dead in the middle of a trip to see family.” I remember telling the Boss about it and how calm he was in regards to the WAR in general. A couple of talks later regarding the WAR and the Boss was still calm in its regards. And for whatever reason that feeling just stuck with me. Then be that as it may, this bout of comps just felt different. In a good way! What I witnessed was pretty amazing. It was great to see the support and camaraderie, mostly I saw folks having fun!.

I personally would like to thank the Boss for leading us through another WAR. I cannot even fathom the amount of work that you put in behind the scenes. It was nice to see both new and familiar faces throwing down for the WAR. I thought the Run-On was very competitive along with several other comps that had a strong CNS presence. I was able to cross off one of my “to-do” boxes as the Boss helped me knock out a bunch of gaming this WAR. Something I always seem to miss out on during big events. So thank you for that!

Like to also thank Quentinshadows for letting me write in his character in one of my R/O posts. Thanks to Malisane for the Co-Op fiction. I have to thank Warlord Tasha’Vel Versea and Grand Master Muz Ashen for assisting me with my fiction and R/O edits. Your help is always very much appreciated.

Last, but certainly not least. Thanks to you all! You’re what drives this place. I will always say this, It's an honor to be a part of these with you all. This WAR was just fun. I am anxious to see the results and celebrate our spoils together!

“Would it save you a lot of time if I just gave up and went mad now?”

“In many of the more relaxed civilizations on the Outer Eastern Rim of the Galaxy, the Hitch-Hiker's Guide has already supplanted the great Encyclopaedia Galactica as the standard repository of all knowledge and wisdom, for though it has many omissions and contains much that is apocryphal, or at least wildly inaccurate, it scores over the older, more pedestrian work in two important respects. First, it is slightly cheaper; and secondly it has the words DON'T PANIC inscribed in large friendly letters on its cover.” Douglas Adams, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (1978 broadcast)

First off, I want to apologize for the odd title to this section. Simply put, I didn’t want to spoil what it was about. Some of you may have already started to figure out what is going on. Some of you will have seen the announcement pop up on Discord and will naturally assume. Some of you might have hurried down to the report to find this. Some of you might have just found it now. And now I feel like I am stringing those folk along.

/sigh

I thought about how I was going to announce this when the time came. I think the simpler way of going about it would be to quote the email that I sent a couple of days ago:

Well, this is a decision that has been a while in coming. I have been thinking about replacements for years before I knew I would have to because I knew that eventually the time would come where I would hand over the reins to a new generation of leadership. I always wanted to think forward to those who would come after me to lead, and wanted to make sure they were well-equipped.

I think the time has come for me to officially tender my resignation as Consul of Clan Naga Sadow. May 13th, 2018 you all permitted me to start serving my Clan as the Consul. I have had the honor of helping to lead my Clans through highs like when we got 2nd in my first Vendetta as leader and lows like the last Rite of Supremacy where we trailed the back end on points. I helped to wrap up the Inferno Event, we ran the Encounter at Citadel, we ran Operation: Antiquity with Plagueis, we saw Rebels and Ruins, we saw the return to our system in Redemption and Honor, we saw us put our foot down in Tensions in the Orian Empire, we experienced Winter in Orian, we fought the Unchained Malady with Taldryan, we conducted the Caper on the Hydian Way and more.

I have had the chance to work with some of the finest leaders I have had the pleasure of working with in the likes of Korvis, Kamjin, Selika, Appius, Locke Sonjie, Sanguinius Entar, Darkhawk, Ashia Keibatsu, Muz Ashen, Malisane and many others in various levels of leadership. I have also had the honor of working with two excellent Grand Masters and the rest of the Dark Council members over the years.

I feel like I have served a term that I can take some satisfaction in. Though my watch as Consul is coming to an end, I am confident that those who come after will be able to lead this Clan handedly towards a bright future for Clan Naga Sadow and for the club as a whole.

I do ask that you permit me to remain in my seat as the Consul until awarding for this Great Jedi War has occurred so I can help ensure that my membership is appropriately rewarded for their efforts. I also ask that I be allowed to share this letter with my Clan before the posting is made public.

So long [as Consul], and thanks for all the fish!

  • -Bentre Stahoes, Son of Sadow*

Being a leader of this Clan has been much like being a member of this Clan. It has been a blast. I have met some wonderful people in all levels and corners of the club. I was provided an opportunity that I look back on the entirety of and can not help but smile at. Not all of this has been as a leader, grant it. Part of it has been in just being a member of this club. Being a leader though, has allowed me to give back to our Clan in particular, and has been part of the way I have tried to give back to this club. Alas, at a certain point the time comes when things change.

"They were not the same eyes with which he had last looked out at this particular scene, and the brain which interpreted the images the eyes resolved was not the same brain. There had been no surgery involved, just the continual wrenching of experience." — from So Long and Thanks for All the Fish (1984)

My time in leadership has helped me grow as a person. I hope it has helped to enrich your experience with this club and beyond. I have met folks who I now consider friends, and have been stretched in ways I didn’t give nearly as much thought to before. Words are not sufficient words to appropriately explain how much I appreciate each one of you that has joined us in this experiment we call life (at least as it pertains to the DB), and I want to thank everyone for this time.

It has been a blast. The time eventually comes when others must pick up our burdens. I was determined to run with the Clan as long as I was able. In truth, my marathon has not entirely ended. But much like a marathon, the time does come when we must pass the baton on to others. Around my fourth year anniversary as Consul, I started to think more seriously. I am but one man. I have tried, and sometimes even succeeded, in running this Clan well. The flip side to this is that, the longer a leader stands in power, the longer their shadow grows. I feared that the longer my shadow grew, the larger the impact I would have in stepping down.

The expectation of those who would follow would be overcast by that shadow. People would come to associate the Clan with one face. Future leaders would face the increasing burden of living up to the standard that I demanded of myself in certain areas.

Clan Naga Sadow is made up of more than one man, or even one Summit. It is made up of many wonderful parts. I guess in a way I will just be rejoining a part of that collective. This time, it will be for a time as a member.

How long will this be? I don’t know. Will I be back? Well, Yoda says the future is always in motion. So maybe there is some wisdom to the Jedi, aye? I can say this, I won’t be going anywhere anytime soon. I will be rejoining one of the Houses once my watch is over. I will play an advisor to whomever the Grand Master selects to replace me, if they will have it. I will continue to champion our clan, our club, and our members. I won’t be disappearing.

I would miss you all too much.

Closing Words

Well, I guess it is a bit hard to follow myself with…myself. I will be staying in my position at least as long as it takes to get results and to ensure that members are set for recognition.

Darkhawk and I have already been discussing some things in the background, and we aim to have awards out on the tailcoats of the Great Jedi War results. But yeah, Bentre Stahoes will be stepping down within a number of weeks from the post of Consul and the decision of a successor will be left to the Grand Master and Dark Council.

Also [not entirely] sorry for all the quotes and block of text.

I Will Remain Ever Yours, In Service, In Darkness, And In Sadow,

PS…because I made a point of so many quotes in this report, one more:

“The last ever dolphin message was misinterpreted as a surprisingly sophisticated attempt to do a double-backwards-somersault through a hoop whilst whistling the 'Star Spangled Banner', but in fact the message was this: So long and thanks for all the fish.” Douglas Adams, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (1978 broadcast)

You really are the Duck of Chaos, Bentre. Still you had a pretty awesome run as Consul. I hope you enjoy some nice time off.

CNS has been lucky to have you Benny! Enjoy your rest, you have more than earned it.

Duck powah! I'll be sad to see you go, Benny.

You are a superhero. You should be so proud of the amazing work you have done. Thank you for all your good deeds my friend!

Thanks for all your service Bentre. You've done great things these last four years.

The real mother is a duck

Damn Sir, I know we joked about this in our convos. Did not think it would come to fruition. You have been a staple for CNS since my return, and you will always will be. There are not enough words nor enough "thank you's" I can extend to express the respect and appreciation I have for you. You have done so much for our betterment, for our members which includes myself on more than one occassion. You ROCK Sir!!!

Thank you!

About time you old fart!

Come and join the rest of us old dodders.

It has been awesome both working with you and learning from you. Enjoy your pseudo retirement.

It's the end of an era. You've been (and still are, Mr. Wiki Tribune) one of our most level-headed and reliable leaders. It isn't retirement, since you still have so many DB jobs, but enjoy it anyway :P

It's been awesome Bentre! ... you keep Locke happy and nobody has died from any of the 3 major CNS dangers, Muz lightning, Muz "todos los" lightsabers or Muz endless alcohol. Winning!

🦆 ✌️

Keeping that Locke you happy is a full time job I tell you what

I already feel bad for your successor.

It's hard to believe it's been since 2018. Time has really flown by and you've been a great Consul. It's been what, 3 wars now? Amazing.

I got so used to you in the position, it's going to be weird submitting my weird ideas to someone else ...

Oh wait you're still Wiki Tribune!
