No one truly leaves

This big news this week was our Aedile, Quejo, stepping down due to the dreaded monster that is “Real Life”. We once again thank Quejo for everything he’s done for the House. Thankfully, he’ll be sticking around and still be an active member of the House! For all of his efforts over the last few months he was awarded a Grand Cross of the Dark Side!

There should be information on the open Aedile position shortly, so keep an eye out for it!

The name’s Drayson. Cole Dryason

The first event of Gathering Darkness is over. Shadow had the winning entry, and the NPC Cole Drayson now has a detailed wiki page.

This takes us right into the second event, Flight into Danger. You will be writing about Cole Drayson and how he manages to escape from where we last left him in the Plot Updates. This is all still part of the Prologue, and you will have a chance to make your entry a part of the overall plot. Submissions are due July 12th, so get those entries in!

This is the round that never ends...

With the summer being on and everyone going on vacation, this round of the ACC Ladder has taken a bit longer than normal to be graded. Hopefully I will have a larger update for everyone in my next report. However, a couple of battles have been graded and they both had Ekky members!

It was Ektrosis vs. Ektrosis (and Canadian vs. Canadian) in the titanic battle of Zoron vs Howlader. Zoron moved on, keeping with our unofficial motto, “The only good Panda is a dead Panda.” In the other battles, I faced off against Farrin and managed to secure a victory as well.

There was actually so much new Shadow Academy information just released that they get their own section in this report. Feel special, SA! :P

There were a number of new Leadership Courses released, which have culminated in a new Department of Leadership Studies. One of the new courses, Proposals, is in need of a Docent. If interested, then send in an application!

In the recent HM Report there was more news about the Leadership courses, with Studies and Fundamentals about to be retired for a new course. There is also another opening in the SA, and this is for Professor of Communications. If interested, have a look at the report and see if you meet the current qualifications.

Volunteering to be a Leader

With all this news about the Leadership courses, along with Quejo stepping down as Aedile, had me thinking about what it means to be a Leader/Volunteer in this club. Become a leader in the DB means working for others. It is no longer about how many competitions you do, but instead about creating those competitions or doing a myriad of other things that are there for the benefit of others.

Becoming a leader meaning volunteering your free time for others. You are no longer just logging in to have a bit of fun or do some random activity. There are now expectations of you. There are duties you must perform because others are looking to you to provide them the opportunities you yourself were given when you joined. For many of us, doing things for others is where we get most of our enjoyment from. We want to give back and see this club flourish.

On the flip side, things happen and we no longer have the right amount of time to give back. Although we are all just volunteers, there are many others out there as well looking to volunteer and put in their own time and effort. Being a leader is not just about giving back, but knowing when to step away. When things get to be too much, or no longer enjoyable, then step back. If you can no longer meet the expectations of the club, then a true leader knows to step away and return when they can. Quejo is an example of such a leader. Always remember, know when you are able to give and when you are no longer able to. Both are important to the longevity of this club.

It’s been fairly slow/quiet on the DC front lately. In the short Forum Report there appears to be people utilizing our new forums. Go out and post on it?

In the Fist Report there was some news about new Guardsman Accessories. You can get these if you’re GMRG Rank X or above and finish top 10 in CF totals each quarter. There was also news about a non-SW, non-PC game if interested.

The Voice is on vacation and that about covers things for the last few weeks on the DC front. Woo?
