Grand Master's Invitational Tournament -- Round II, FIGHT!

REDACTED: Colosseum
Waiting Area

The eight combatants stood in their own respective positions as they checked over their possessions and equipment. Each had their own pre-battle rituals and each seemed to be taking subtle notice of the others. All eight knew each other in some manner of speaking, be it from rivalry, personal experience, or hearsay. Each of them knew that the trials in the mines had only been the start of the challenge. There was still a long road towards achieving victory before the Grand Master and the rest of the scrying eyes of the rest of the Brotherhood.

Prophet Halcyon Rokir Taldrya idly inspected his custom Bryar pistol. After nearly killing his first opponent in cold blood, the former Deputy and Champion seemed completely at ease. Scion had yet to leave the medbay.

Shi Long stretched with a slow, ritual cadence. When he rolled his wrists and cracked his knuckles, the knots of muscles along his arms tensed like corded rope. He had gone up against one of the Brotherhood's most influential leaders in Aabsdu di Plagia Dupar, but managed to scrape his way to victory by a hair's breadth. Beside him stood his fellow Sadowan, Sanguinius Tsucyra Entar.

Sanguinius exchanged a few pleasantries with his distant brother, Timeros Caesus Entar Arconae, who stood next to him with a chilly indifference to rest of the gathered fighters. Sanguinius’ opponent, V’yr Vorsa, had openly defied the Grand Master, which had allowed the Sadowan a relatively simple walk into the next round. By contrast, Timeros had managed to overcome one of the galaxy's last remaining Verpine in Kz’set di Plagia.

Off to the side of Timeros and Sanguinius, Selika Roh di Plagia leaned back against the wall with the casual nonchalance of a cat. She had managed to outmaneuver her opponent, Andrelious J. Mimosa-Inahj, and did not seem to be perturbed by the absence of her fellow di Plagia. She studied each of the gathered combatants and idly began to muse on the different ways she could get what she wanted from each of them.

When her eyes met those of one of the two Jedi standing farthest away from her, her face lit up as she flashed a tight knowing smile.

Turel Sorenn grit his teeth and bit back the first thing that came to mind. Not now. Not yet, he told himself. At his side, his Consul, A’lora Kituri placed a hand on his shoulder. Both Odanites had managed to beat their opponents to the top of the mines, leaving both members of Scholae Palatinae pondering defeat. Lexiconus Qor had recovered fairly quickly, but Archangel Palpatine had actually left the med bay limping after “accidentally” breaking the wrist of one of the attendants that tried to sedate the Juggernaut.

Rounding off the group, Terran Koul kept quiet and to himself. There had been a cave-in during his engagement with Tarentums’ resident Dashade, Frosty Romanae Tarentae, but the Aedile was attentive and ready for the challenge ahead.

“Congratulations on making it to the second round,” a disembodied voice with a slight lilt filled the chamber. A part of the stone wall revealed the rectangular outline of a door frame before retracting into the ground to allow the Combat Master to step in and join the gathered combatants.

Marick Arconae stood with hands clasped behind his back, his black and grey robes neatly pressed and tailored to his body. Many had become accustomed to the former Shadow Lord’s ceremonial robes, making him seem almost ordinary despite his role in the Brotherhood.

“You’ve all been reminded of the Grand Master’s wishes,” Marick stressed a specific part of his words as his glacial eyes met Halcyon’s. “Selika, Turel, Sanguinius, A’lora, come with me.”

Without any further preamble, Marick gestured for the first four fighters to follow him into the hidden corridor that led to the far side of the arena.

“Good luck,” the Combat Master said over his shoulder to the remaining four fighters.

The faint din of excited chatter from the gathering crowd echoed down the long stone tunnel. The high, arching ceilings seemed to have been designed intentionally to carry the acoustics so that as the first fighter drew closer and closer to the entrance to the arena, the sound climbed and swelled to the beat of anticipated violence. A second tunnel on the opposite side of the arena held the second fighter, who similarly made their way towards the arena.

The stage had been set. The time for speculation was over. Only the strongest and most resourceful fighters would see this tournament through to its end.

I love the short little intros for each duel, like the ones that were posted in DB chat during the Rivalries competition.

It's the simple things that make me love this club. <3
