Satele Shan Aedile Report - The Arch Awakens

Fiction

Seher

New Tython

Armand shrieked twice - company was here. Alethia had bought the scarlet and black bird on a whim from a market stall in Seher a few months ago, but he’d proven himself to be a reliable alarm system. By the time she had rewarded Armand with a berry, her guest had finished climbing the stairs to her flat and was pounding on the door.

Mar Sȗl towered over her in his Seherob armor when she opened the door. The former Quaestor had been a rare sight among the Jedi in recent months. Officially, he was devoting his time to the Seherob, but Alethia suspected it had more to do with the bloody collapse of the Force Ascendant. She knew all too well that the loss of a home, even a dysfunctional one, took time to recover from.

“Councilor, how kind of you to stop by! Please, do come in,” Alethia said with a slight bow. “Truthfully, I’m a bit surprised that you accepted my invitation. Tea?”

“It was a most unorthodox request, Aedile. I presume you didn’t ask me here for light conversation.”

Charming, isn’t he? Alethia toned down her smile slightly; it was no use coming off like a politician. “Unfortunately not. Have a seat and I’ll get straight to the point.” She kept a close eye on Mar’s cryptic expression as they took seats opposite one another.

“As Aedile, I’ve been tasked with overseeing dozens of Jedi, whose powers I do not pretend to comprehend, just a few weeks after several of them attempted to murder our Proconsul.” Alethia leaned in slightly, looking eyes with the stone-faced crusader. “I need to know their capabilities. I need to know their limits. I need to know these things to keep us all safe, and I trust you to understand the stakes of that better than anyone.”

Mar regarded her coolly for a moment, stroking his beard as he considered her proposal. “You’re asking for a master.”

“Not the word I would have chosen,” Alethia replied. “But yes, I need a crash course of sorts. Can I count on you?”

Introduction

Silly question; of course I can count on the Satelites. I’m delighted and honored to present my first report as House Satele Shan’s Aedile. The House leadership - Cable and Seridan at first, then Mako and Kah - welcomed me to the Brotherhood with open arms and went out of their way to make Shan feel like home. I hope I can live up to their example. To that end, if there’s anything you’d like to see or any issues I can help with, please don’t hesitate to let me know via [Log in to view e-mail addresses] or Telegram. Otherwise, keep on giving Mako and I fuel for that award fire. Big Brother will be watching. <3

News

Congratulations to Edgar and Seridan for taking the top spots in Mako’s recent competitions for artifacts and adversaries. Of course, Mako and I were the real winners, as we now have several excellent items and NPCs just waiting to be put to good use.

We’re holding back from major events in anticipation of the Feud, but there’s still plenty for you to do:

  • Jedi Pillow Talk has been extended through the 22nd. Come, darlings, and whisper sweet nothings into my ear.
  • COU Flash Game - Red is a simple and fun game brought to you by my opposite number in House Hoth.
  • Shrouded Loyalty is the current Inquisitorius competition, and might be of interest to you spooky types. I would be delighted to scan your entries for seditious activities and/or proofread your submissions for you.
  • Hamsters on the Run is our noble Quaestor’s flash gaming comp. Much like your summit, it is cute and fluffy and not at all ruthless or machiavellian.
  • Flowery Words and Broken Hearts is the perfect way to vent all of your post-Valentine’s frustrations.
  • Wade into the meme Stream starts Saturday and is your chance to provide the dankest memes for the DJB’s social media sites.
  • Eat Something, You Look Thin, starting Sunday, is my shameless attempt to pass myself off as an art critic.
  • This Is My Jam! is your chance to impress Wally-senpai with a sweet mixtape.

Battleteams

Odan-Urr’s battleteams are our elite subunits, comprised of the best and brightest Jedi and NFUs of our era. And fortunately for you, dear reader, both of Satele Shan’s battleteams have spots open right now. Contact Aisha for more info on the valiant and righteous Disciples of Baas, and Aaleeshah for more info on the stealthy and subtle Striketeam Ooroo.

Our Battleteams are going to be the front line against Plagueis. Do your part to keep them in fighting shape!

Arch’s Special Corner

If you’re on the COU Summit, you hype all the things. It’s what you do. We’ve got some of the most active and intense members in the Brotherhood, the types who really do go out of their way to do all the things. Go look at the GMRG leaderboard if you don’t believe me. But we’re aware that sometimes you’re just short on time. We’ve got members in school, members working overtime, members with young children, members with health issues, and so on. So I wanted to take a moment to talk about how you can make an invaluable contribution to the Clan even if you can’t manage to crank out hundreds of CFs and tens of thousands of words every month.

First off, say it with me now, COU means family. Family means we support each other. Hang out in Telegram. Proofread for people. Plug each other’s competitions. Be a shoulder to cry on during rough times and a cheerleader during good ones. In the months and years to come, nobody’s going to remember how many clusters you got in February 2016. They’re going to remember how you treated them, and whether or not you took the time to help them.

Second, the perfect is often the enemy of the good. I have a tendency - and I’m hardly alone in this - to set gratuitously ambitious standards for myself and then trash anything that doesn’t meet them, or even put off starting because I don’t have an idea that’s first-prize-worthy. This is not a good thing. It’s very un-Dude. Yes, crescents are awesome; but they’re not what makes the Brotherhood fun. Getting crescents isn't what shows support for your friends running comps, and it's not what gets you promotions or merit medals. Winning is awesome, don't get me wrong, but if you find yourself passing on participation because you think you're “not good enough," you should take a minute to rethink that.

In Closing

Keep on keepin’ on, guys. We appreciate your continued activity, and I for one can’t wait to see the looks on the poor Plagueians’ faces when we unleash you in the Feud.
