Scholae Palatinae Aedile Briefing

It's one of those situations where enough happened post GJW, that I felt the need to publish a special out of sequence report (with an aptly differentiated naming scheme). So down below I'm going to hit on each major topic briefly to give you the important details.

Great Jedi War XI

Scholae Palatinae placed 3rd overall. A great final accomplishment we all earned together.

Our participation statistics:

  • 30 unique participants
  • 70% of our members participated in at least 1 event (best % in the DJB)
  • 176 total submissions
  • 5.87 submissions per participant

This is great work and effort by everyone. Still waiting for a final fiction to wrap it all up, as well as the final awards to the units.

You can catch up on the fictions at these links below:

Grand Master

Grand Master Muz, after 6 years, has stepped down and retired to Clan Naga Sadow and nominated current Deputy Grand Master Darth Pravus as his successor. This occurred a few days ago, we are currently in a period of questions and discussion, with an official vote by the Dark Council to be initiated shortly to confirm the nomination.

As a parting gift, Muz has shared some of his artistic labors with the membership for those at DJK rank and above.

  • King and Queen robes
  • Female version of the Pride robes from last year
  • Roar lightsaber with a unique variety of blade colors

Clanhood

Many members have asked Xen, myself, and on our mailing list, excitedly, about Scholae Palatinae becoming a Clan following our impressive participation in the Great Jedi War, and 3rd place finish. If you look to the transition in Grand Master you'll get a bit of an idea on where progress is at on that front. Know that it is a priority for Xen and I to ensure this discussion takes place to completion, and as soon as anything is official all Scholae Palatinae will know as soon as possible.

Awards

We have completed our round of unit awards following the Great Jedi War, for some these awards covered our Family Heirloom competition, Fading Light Nicht Ka, Looking Home Wrath of Zhan, and Great Jedi War XI. These awards ranged from Grand Crosses of the Dark Side, to Dark Crosses, with a few promotions as well. Congratulations to everyone. Full list in my next report.

Special congratulations to Sith Warrior Shadow Nighthunter, Krath Priest Zagro Fenn, Dark Jedi Knight Anahorn Dempsey and Jedi Hunter Drake Starfire on their promotions.

Announcements

In no particular order, but noteworthy information...

  • For those excited about the upcoming game Star Wars Battlefront, there were quite a few leaded rumors that Yacks goes over in this news post that are worth a read. Not sure how rumors may have changed since this posting but I am very much looking forward to this game so the more news the better.
  • MAA reports are here and here. Of note, there are requirements to close competitions within 45 days after they are done running, which is even more generous than it should be, so if you're running a competition keep this in mind and don't be part of a system generated email including half the Dark Council on your negligence. Lots of great tips in the most recent report on recommendation writing that I won't get into here but if you're in a position to recommend awards take a look. Also if you do get a system generated message from the MAA, be careful about replying all.
  • Headmaster report is here. Of note, a revised IRC Basics course that has been improved and released. IRC is a great place to chat, in our channel #scholae and meet people. Many of you already do, but for those who don't get on much fun to get to know most people. Also, it seems you can deleted your saved exams, which could be exciting if like me you have too many you never really even started.
  • Voice report is here. Of note, lots of great information on how the GJW was graded. So if you're curious how that all worked it's worth a read for sure. Archangel, Mayda and Dempsey were noted by the Voice as members who had really great fiction entries but just missed the top 10, so great work by all of you, given how competitive this GJW was it seems that in any other even they would have really stood out so I am glad Mav went took the time to recognize more members of Scholae Palatinae for their great writing. We really do have a lot of great writers. Beyond that it seems the Voice staff is playing catch up after the war and wrapping up requests and ironing out details on the Fiction Society to come likely pending some new GM review.
  • A really great Alchemy Guide was released that's worth a look.

Opportunities

Regarding opportunities. I want to just make a note that I don't know, what I don't know. Sometimes a position opens and we accept applications, which both fortunately and unfortunately doesn't happen often in Scholae Palatinae, but it does give a really great opportunity to know who is interested in becoming a leader in the DJB. Leaders are very important to the DJB and I want to develop anyone who is interested. So don't wait for a position to open in Scholae Palatinae and let me know now. Clanning may open some doors. Vacant positions may open doors. There is no end to the amount of work that can be accomplished because this place is what we make of it. Take control of your own destiny here and say something to Xen and I, and we'll discuss what it takes to get you what you need to be successful. Just be open to criticism and frank discussion, because it does nobody any good to do otherwise.

Current opportunities out there....

  • The MAA in his latest report announced that he is accepting applications for the position of Magistrate, requirements and details in the report but the only requirement is Jedi Hunter so I encourage anyone interested in the office to check out the report and consider applying.
  • Clan Naga Sadow has openings for a Quaestor and an Aedile for House Shar Dakhan. If you are so seeking such an opportunity and hate all of us here in Scholae Palatinae for no rational reason.

Events

  • March will see the different Battle Team Leaders, Lucyeth, Eetherbiail, and Dante running some competitions for the House. I'm leaving it mostly up to them, perhaps Xen and I may run some things of our own. If you have an idea for a comp you'd like to do please let us know. We are leaving it as an open month for people to try something and just run what they want.
  • April will see the Prologue for what will start the next major story arc for Scholae Palatinae. I want to wait out a few things like possible Clanning, Fleet structure, before I do too much work but a Prologue is coming soon.
  • May and beyond will see us looking to other units for Feuds. We have a few in discussion. The details of these are vague but lots of exhaustion from the GJW and the transition of GM has things on hold. But know we're working on it. When we have to go outside our own doors and work with others there's an extra layer of coordination that Xen and I can't do on our own, but the rewards and experience can also be awesome.

Competitions

Of course you can see all possible competitions here.

Specifically make sure you do Xantros fun Motivational series with 3 different events. A small relaxing piece of fiction, something with a rabbit and flash, and expressing yourself with music.

Closing

Much of above I wanted to get out there just so you knew about the Grand Master transition, and aware of the lag it put on some things for our unit. I don't expect things to hold for long after a new Grand Master is in place so we can get back onto fun. Of course if you're looking for something to do, I hear Cruise really enjoys shooting and destroying things in Star Conflict, and now he has Xen and I both enjoying a match or two when we have time as well.

In darkness,

Evant Taelyan, Aedile of Scholae Palatinae

W00T House Briefing!

Yea! Come shoot some noobs with us in Star Conflict. I'm just an e-mail away if anyone ever wants to fly. After hours I have tons of time to train and help boost levels. I look forward to our House growing, clanning maybe, and Xen earning that Son of Palpatine title!
