Quarterly Review

Something that we in the House Summit sometimes lack through normal conversation is feedback, and especially so when looking at long-term stuff. And what normal conversation especially doesn’t provide is an easily-referenced collection of that feedback. So now as we enter our fourth month as Galeres’ Summit, we’ve put together a survey for you all to tell us what we’re doing right (and thus should continue to do) and what we can improve on (and how you think we could best do that). Note that some but not all questions may require a response in order to complete the survey. The survey link can be found in the report announcement e-mail; it is not linked in this report.

General topics of discussion include:

  • Communication
  • Competitions/Events
  • Roleplay
  • House Voting

If there are any questions about this review, feel free to let us know via e-mail, Telegram PM, or in Galeres Chat (also Telegram). Anticipate us putting one of these out for every quarter of the calendar year.

Roleplay Sessions

We finished the pre-event RP just in time for the competitions to kick off. This RP will also be available for Galerian/Arconan consumption in the e-mail distro, per the usual. Unless specifically requested, we will likely be taking an RPing break for another week to let people recover. If folks are craving some of that goodness though, hit us up and we’ll do the thing! Likewise, if you want to run a session, or have us run a scenario of your design, that is also on the table.

And, if you have feedback on our RPs, don’t forget that we have the feedback form in the pinned messages in the House TG channel. You can find it in the pinned messages menu, or flip back to February 10th. We can’t improve the experience if you don’t tell us what we’re doing right and what is maybe not so right.

On an interesting note though, I wanted to quote something from Zujibeans from our OOC chatter: How many clans can say their made up NPC species has a fleshed out language? :p

We’re currently sitting at eighty-eight (88) words in the Keadean Lexicon, plus some associated grammar! While this is particularly a labor of love for me, thank you guys for being a driving force behind this! I’m glad you’re enjoying it, and I hope it helps to continue bolstering interest in this plotline of ours.

That said, we may attempt to reduce the rather lengthy one-on-one pieces that were especially prevalent toward the end of this last session we had. We will see how folks feel about it first, but it’s something to keep in mind.

Wiki Work

We’re still looking for folks that are interested in doing wiki work! This will be our last call for worker bees a while: no responses means we’ll assume no one else is interested.

Wiki work comes in three parts. First, we identify the article(s) and/or their constituent part(s) that need updating. Second, the editor makes suggested edits to the page (ideally through a Google Doc so we can directly see the work being done). Third, final tweaks and approvals. For the one doing the editing, not only is it a good opportunity to get some service work credit, but it’s also a great way to learn the history of the House, its assets, and have a direct impact on its recorded history.

If interested, shoot us an e-mail and we’ll get you working. If you have one or more articles in particular that you want to work on, let us know and we’ll tailor the project timeline as much as we can.

Event Calendar Continued

We’re keeping this bullet point calendar here for you guys to keep up that expectation management as the months and events go by.

  • March: House event is LIVE.
  • April: Break time, minus any offset from the House event.
  • May: Anticipating free breathing room.
  • June: Rite of Supremacy in full swing, possibly ending mid-month if it starts in May.
  • July: Break time.
  • August: Clan event; another step on the train of monster creatures or whatever Lucine and Rhylance are cooking up.
  • September: House event that will be half plot, half development for Eldar.
  • October: House mini-event with spoopy themes because October. Less plot, more antics.
  • November: Break time.
  • December: Hey look, Sithmas and Life Day are back. No House/Clan events planned.

House Event! Eldar: Second Contact

The event is now LIVE, folks! As of this report, we are about two weeks in, with the full breadth of the competition running until April 25th. Plan accordingly, and be sure to ping us with any questions or issues you have during the participation period.

Case in point, there was a noted issue on the Cryptogram competition. Sera is aware of this and has already undertaken steps to rectify the typo. This should not negatively affect your participation time and/or placement so long as you put in A) the decrypted text as it was before the correction, or B) the decrypted text with the proper spelling of the intended word.

There will be a closer fiction once the event is over, with outcomes reflecting both participation efforts and in-character actions. ”But what does that mean?” It means this plot is not on rails: the more you do, the better the fictional outcome for the House.

News

SO MUCH NEWS THIS MONTH. ALL THE NEWS MOAR NEWS. We’ve got DC positions opening up and being filled, a few updates to important Brotherhood policy, and a laundry list of other notable occurrences, most of them good. Let’s read, shall we?

  • Atra showered a deluge of beautiful new shinies upon us in his Regent Report.
  • There was an amendment to the Covenant affecting how abenstions work in the Star Chamber/Dark Council voting process. I highly recommend everyone read the report, and the subsequent clarification.
  • We got a lovely-dovely Brotherhood Fiction Update. Note: don’t get Force squishied.
  • Bubba released his first DGM report, reporting on his staff, some cleric issues, and the results of the last GJW survey!
  • Our very own Shiny Sith Alaisy was appointed as Herald!! This is a remarkable achievement, and I wish her all the luck in the world. You can catch her first report right here.
  • We got a report from the Headmistress! Short and sweet, check it if you’re interested in job positions in particular! She also released a supplemental here.
  • Howie has updated Promotion guidelines and a portion of the Vendetta wiki. Some interesting things here.
  • SARLACC is over, and Arcona swept the top five positions, and nearly took the whole top ten! Congrats to Alaisy, Lucine, Marick, and Aiden on their top five placements, and an immense thanks to the ACC staff for all of their hard work and effort over the course of the event. You can find Turel’s full breakdown here
  • Last but not least, the Regent spot is up for grabs! Do you like items? Do you like finagling systems of fictional item management? Then this is the job for you!

Competitions

I certainly hope y’all will be keeping busy this month. We’ve got a slew of worthy competitions, from fiction and graphic to codebreakers and puzzles. Some great opportunities for quick participation in there, if anyone is looking to boost their numbers for a promotion or merit award.

  • If you’re looking to practice your evocation of imagery in your artwork, the Pictures in the Sound compchain from our regent-turned Justiciar is a great place to start!
  • You always remember your first. If that’s so, why not write about your character’s very first kill in this competition! Make sure to capture all those painful, angsty details.
  • Burn bright, burn fast. The life of a podracer isn’t for everyone; are you sure that you can handle it?
  • Although it was mentioned earlier in the report, here’s a little reminder; GAL COMPS! GAL COMPS GAL COMPS GAL COMPS! DEW ALL DE THINGS HERE.
  • You like Star Wars: The Old Republic? I sure don’t, but if you do, this comp is for you!
  • Also for all our gamers, April GMRG Comps are out!
  • You on the man’s side? Down with the fuzz? Up to catch some filthy, no-good doers? Well, take a swing at this fiction comp and catch all those crooks!
  • Oaths tie us, bind us, and join us together. Without our promises to one another, we are nothing...but how much does loyalty mean to you? Find out in this fiction comp.
  • There is no comp here. No. Nothing to look at. Move along.

#AskQekAndKicks Q&A

Sera again! Now for my favorite part of every report, filled with sass and schmexy snipes...Q&A!

Atty is up first, with a bundle of queries.

For Both:

Thoughts on Kaedeans vs Sardinians?

  • Q: I mean, one is lizard peeps, the other are human peeps… Oh, you meant the conflict. Well, given our track record, we’ll fumble around to find a solution, then strike with the fire of a thousand suns to decisively defeat them, followed by a drinking party before returning to the start of the cycle.
  • Sera: Well...in the broadest terms, it’s a damned mess. Millennia of oppression, and a century of strife and hatred, rolled up with a society-destroying pandemic. Innocent blood has already been shed...which makes everything so much harder. That’s what we need to prevent. We need to find a way to peace, without turning it into a cycle of endless vengeance where “justice” is only meted out upon the weak.

Respective thoughts on Ruka's new tattoos? (Dagger for Sera, lavender for Q)

  • Q: I’m not sure Q’s actually seen it yet. Buuut, once she does, there’s gonna be some feelings of guilt that he got one, but she didn’t (and she has no intention of getting another).
  • Sera: I mean, she loves it, of course. Tattoos tell the story of their bearer, representing their family, their blood, their soul upon their skin. A dagger makes sense for Ru...and, it’s just damned sweet of him.

Thoughts of each other IC as a leadership team?

  • Q: Of what she’s seen, Sera seems to be very bold and brave, but sometimes that can be charging headfirst when prudence/caution is more value.
  • Sera: Sera thinks that Q’s a born leader, a natural chieftain. She’s intensely brave, dependable and loyal to a fault, and so damned capable. But...she’s also infuriatingly practical and hardheaded sometimes. Takes things too seriously, doesn’t wanna spar...y’know, things that actually keep Sera from getting into trouble. She’s also a little bit worried by the fact that Q seems to have a serious problem with other portions of the summit, people that Sera is devoted to...

Most excited for upcoming project or event?

  • Q: I’m excited to have the Eldar plot rolling along again, but I’m also looking forward to the Arcona Armed Forces development project(s).
  • Sera: I’m really looking forward to getting into the swing of things with the wiki stuff, and I’ve got just a few ideas for the fiction comp in our current House event...

For Sera:

*green ribbon knitting follow up when? *

  • Soooooooon. Whenever I don’t have morning lecture, really.

*Second question, Sera's thoughts on Ruka's parents or what would even lead her to questioning his feelings about them? *

  • Well, he’s never mentioned them. I’m sure she would question it eventually, especially once they start talking about her brother and her tribe, since he’s taken the Oath of Kin, now. She knows a little bit about neglectful parents, of course...but, she’s always had someone there. Her Nitha, her brother, her tribe. There were lean seasons where everyone starved, but she was never left to wither on her own, to fend for herself. She wouldn’t know at all how she would react, were she in Ruka’s place...all she knows is that it really does hurt to have a mother and a father that never quite loved you enough to care.

Actually third one, would she or would she not immediately hear "we're not close" and go "but why, you should be!" and generally be Sera brand enthusiastic about forgiveness and family and love and honor?

  • Forgiveness, yes. Love, yes. Both of things are given unconditionally, even if the other party doesn’t quite give a damn. Even if her parents never loved her enough to raise her, to care about her, she’s never stopped loving them. But, accepting them? Getting close? That’s something different. Her own brother could never forgive his parents for leaving him and Sera. She would never force Ruka to forgive his own, especially since they forced him into a far more horrid situation. Are you going to introduce Koren anytime soon, or is that more in the back pocket?*

  • Soon and very soon. Probably not before I leave to New York, but I’m hoping for sometime after I get back.

For Q:

The Kord Intervention, before, after, or during the wedding?

  • Ideally before. If they can get the angst sorted ahead of time, then that’ll help everything else be a lot more fun.

Who's Q's maid of honor/best man? Who's K's?

  • Maid of honor will be her childhood friend (and dressmaker) Morine. Keira’s… Leeadra, probs?

Q's current thoughts on Arcona/summit? Any change?

  • Not really any changes? Still suspicious of Lucine, still doesn’t really know who Aiden is.

Next up, Zuji throws out a quick interrogative about Sera’s fam. Piggybacking off of Atty's, Orion: flesh out what Diy knows of Koren? :3

  • Yeeeeeees. With the Revenants, his reputation would precede him as a pilot, fighter, and strategist...and, far different from Sera, not the friendliest fellow around. Beyond that...well, I’ve got a few ideas. :D

And, finally, Xenna finds herself in a legally questionable position...again.

I may or may not have sparked intergalactic war, do we have a procedure for this?

  • Q: Denied.
  • Sera: The procedure is to kick ass. Kick all the ass. Kick the army’s ass, and the navy’s ass. Kick their parents’ asses. March up to the throne and kick the Emperor’s ass. We stand by our own, here in Gal...and we kick all the ass.
