Quaestor Report #8: Leadership for Kel Rasha Final Results!!

header

Greetings fellow Dakhani! Welcome to the long awaited report for the final results of the “Leadership for Kel Rasha” event! Let’s dive into what you guys have been doing for the past five weeks!

Kel Rasha
Nikeisha Residence
After the Inauguration Ceremony
Aeotheran
34 ABY

Maya Nikeisha and her sisters sat in their home, the large mansion silent for the first time in weeks. The living room was spacious, massive reclining hover chairs were spread throughout the room. A chandelier adorned the ceiling and cast its beautiful orangish color throughout the dimly lit room. In the middle of the room was a dining table, fit for kings. A fire could be heard in the fireplace, heating the room and its inhabitants. It had grown cold the last month, and the night had been creeping up on them ever faster with each day.

Maya could appreciate the silence for once, their busy and hectic lives now deserved some peace and quiet. A glass of wine in her hands, she stood before the fireplace letting the heat of the fire and the warmth of the wine spread throughout her body. It calmed her, allowing her to think of the past few months and how Kel Rasha had grown to become the city her father had always said it would turn out to be.

A teardrop rolled down her cheek, not bothering to wipe it away. She took another sip of wine and stared at the embers of the fire as she welcomed the comforting snap-crackle-pops of the wood burning.

A sudden knock at the door brought her back to her senses. She wiped her tears away, setting the glass down before making her way to the door to see who would be bothering them now so late at night.

The butler rushed in with bright red cheeks and gave a quick bow. “Mistress, The Traveler has appeared unannounced before our door. Normally I would turn him away… but it seems rather rude to refuse an audience to the Mayor,” he said as he ran out of breath.

“Let him in,” she whispered as she turned towards her sisters and began to take her place at the head of the table. Taking another sip of wine, she hesitated and thought frak it and downed the rest of the glass before setting it down on the table.

What does he want? Probably to humiliate us some more and flounder his landslide victory over me, Maya thought to herself. Her sisters sat themselves around the table, three on each side of her.

She heard the door open, and the butler letting the Mayor in.

“They are waiting for you in the living room Sir, please wait a moment while I hang your coat up and I shall escort you--” he was cut off before finishing his sentence.

“No need Gerald, thank you. You have always been of great service to the Nikeisha family,” The Traveler said. His final words caused the butler to gasp out loud.

Panic began to rise in Maya’s as she did not know what to expect.

The Traveler walked into the living room. The signature brown robes and hooded cowl of the person was all too familiar as this thing stood within her home.

“The house hasn’t changed much since I left,” the man whispered as he turned around in a circle to view the large living room.

“How would you know that,” Maya snapped as she stood up from her chair, “and how do you know our butler’s name?”

Team The Traveler Wins!

Well done to the members on Team The Traveler! You all did a very good job in staying in the lead and pulling the majority of the votes every week to your Mayor. Congratulations to Jades, Sang, Aexod, Aul and Darius for your team efforts the past five weeks!

Of course Team Maya also gets a pat on the back! I was extremely thrilled to see a few members fight to the bitter end, with Lilith being the only competitor to go 6/6 for all competitions this event! With having an extremely tight schedule and limited time to participate, I cannot say how great it is to see you have put so much effort into this event! I hope we get to see more of this activity in future events, and that your fellow peers can look towards you for inspiration!

I received great feedback on the week 2 competition, the puzzle seemed to be the most favorite of all competitions by far.

Quick note on the Event

I would like to take the time to discuss the Run-On. Sadly it seemed to be the least popular of all the competitions. One of my theories is that members might have found it boring since it was not the usual hack and slash, thus they did not know how to write their characters for the RO. I did this on purpose from the start of the event, to give it a shot anyways despite it not being what people were used to.

However, I noticed that both team Captains had been hammering on trying to get their members to write a post. Throughout the entire five weeks the RO was a huge discussion point for both teams, and I can’t help but feel that the problem lay with the organization of the event.

Was the prompt not interesting enough? Was there not enough encouragement from the organizer? Was the RO too much effort?

These questions and more have floated around in my head, and I would appreciate honest feedback and/or criticism towards this particular part of the event. I would like to be able to offer a RO that is enjoyable for all in the future, yet at this current moment I do not know what would interest you to participate in RO’s.

I was also quite strict on the rules here, with a minimum of two posts and a 250 word minimum. Although some members had written two posts, one of them was below the word minimum that was set, forcing me to invalidate their submissions. I urge each and every member to follow the rules for all future events, whether they are DJB,Clan,House or BT wide. It is no fun having to invalidate entries and deny people the efforts of their work. Yet, rules are rules, and if you are invalidated in a GJW/Feud because you didn’t read the rules correctly or forgot to check your word count, it really hurts your unit.

So please feel free to comment below, send me an email or PM me on Telegram with your thoughts and opinions about the Run-On and/or the event! I'm also particularly interested in thoughts about the Bonus Objectives, and if you feel it had any motivational factor at all during the event. Thanks in advance!

Final thank you’s!

This event was, in my opinion, a huge success. However, I didn’t work on this alone, with the preparation of the event involving many others.

First off, I want to thank Scarlet Agna for drawing the head shots for Maya Nikeisha and The Traveler. These awesome portrait photo’s helped to bring the characters to life when they were introduced to the members 6 weeks ago. If it weren’t for these drawings I fear the NPC’s would have been quite bland. Maya’s wisdom and The Traveler’s mysteriousness were brought to life thanks to Scarlet’s work.

Second, I want to thank Bentre Kairn'tel Stahoes for making the posters for each candidate. This was another added effect to help members choose the candidate they wanted to support, and he did a wonderful job in giving me what I envisioned with the very limited time and explanation I had given him.

Both Scarlet and Bentre were able to give me what I had asked of them within 24 hours, making life a lot easier for me in the further preparation phases of the event. Please take the time to congratulate both of them for their hard work and efforts to help support the event!

Third, I would like to thank Locke, Sang and Darius for being a part of this House event. They didn’t have to partake in this yet when I approached them if they would be interested they all agreed unanimously and their support for this event is much appreciated!

And finally, I would like to thank all the people who proofed my fiction updates coinciding alongside the event. Sang, Locke, Aul, Bentre and DarkHawk, I appreciate the time you took from your busy daily lives to proof the fictions almost as soon as I asked for it.

Thank you everyone, the participants and the ones who worked with me to make this a very successful and fun event!!!

New Puzzle Event!

Based on the success of week 2’s puzzle event, Scarlet and I have decided to run a bi-weekly DJB wide puzzle competition that will last for two months.

The competition, Scarlet and Darkblade’s Puzzle Party started a few days ago and will run until mid December. So head on over, show the DJB what CNS is capable of and go support your fellow members competition!

Important News

The DJB has gone through a lot of position changes recently, with many different chances to advance within the Club. Below you can find some of these positions that may appeal to you:

Taldyran is looking for a new PCON. Applications are open until the 20th of October!
Arcona is looking for a new Quaestor for House Galeres. Applications are open until the 24th of October!

Further news, more related to the Clan, is that we still have Ophelia’s and DarkHawk’s Run-On which is still ongoing. The Void runs until the 24th of October!

Muz and co from HMR have begun their rebuilding process of Kar Alabrak. They have decided to run an event around it named The Siege of Heaven which revolves around members helping the restoration and lasts for about two months with new chapters added frequently. The competition is open for all CNS members, not just HMR. So if you feel like making an impact on HMR history, I would strongly encourage you to check out their comps and get in a few entries!

Our very own resident Mr. Too Cool Rollmaster has released a very important update to the Black guard! Check out his report here and sign up for the event for the chance to become a bada-- I mean Black Guard!

Finally, our illustrious leaders Locke and Sang have released a report detailing the upcoming Clan event. I won’t spoil anything, so I suggest you check out their report now if you happened to have missed it!

Final Thoughts

The past six weeks have been a very exciting time for HSD. I feel that we are on the right track concerning member activity (obviously we could be doing better but I’m not complaining) and the rewarding of our members in a timely fashion. The House has taken great strides forward in the cleaning up of the wiki pages and expanding on its lore. In the past nine months we have set a new standard in quality and have seen it trickle down to the BT level with Aul Celsus doing a tremendously good job on thinking of creative competitions to help improve the wiki pages and give them a unique feel.

As you may or may not have noticed, we are working on updating the NPC’s for the VIISD Covenant to create a more vibrant crew. Before it was just an all human crew, where now we have changed the XO to a female Falleen under the name of Ginla Xinsel. We will be working to replace one more human NPC with an alien species, and the remaining three crew will be fleshed out as human NPC’s. I am confident that next month this will be completed or near completion.

Whilst we maintain to work hard to improve the member experience, I can only hope that you will also continue to repay that hard work with perpetuate activity and an awesome attitude! I have never been more proud of where HSD stands now :)

TL;DR

  • Kel Rasha event ends
  • The Traveler Wins!
  • Fiction goodness
  • Scarlet and I host DJB wide Puzzle Comps
  • I thank everyone for their hard work
  • Important reports from other important people
  • New NPC updates in progress
  • Some more thanks

Respectfully,

Great event, yay team Traveller!

About the RO, there has been a constant presence of runons in cns for as long as I've been a member of the club. Not only presence, but emphasis on them as well. Too much of anything, especially something that takes constant coordination and more effort than other activities wouls be my guess as to why it wasnt so popular, but you already know my views :)

Excellent report and I loved the event. I too wish the RO was more successful, but I think otherwise I found that Team Traveler really did come together as an actual team. I would be more than happy to participate in something of a similar scale on a semi-regular basis. The bonus points were absolutely a motivator when it was something that I had personal control of (fiction numbers, gaming points, etc.)

Great job, DB. I hope there won't be too much brains served at the Traveler's victory party.

I had fun with all the comps, I really want to thank Locke for posting in the runon so that I could get both of my posts in. Without him I wouldn't have been able to go 6/6, which was my goal. I will say that doing a fiction and a runon for the same parent comp is extremely hard because it is about the same thing more or less and trying not to plagiarize yourself is tough

Thank you Darkblade, It was a lot fun to draw the NPC's up. And, I'm always up for supporting my house and Clan. Also, thank you who all entered the event and showed support. Congrats Team Traveler. :)

@Lilith: I just wanted to make sure you could go 6/6. Nice job!

I found the event to be really refreshing. The competitions were different and they all tied into the theme. I actually kind of wish it were longer, or had more competitions, just because there would have been more potential for a team to climb back into contention. I did find the runon and fiction be pretty closely related (my runon post could have practically fit as my fiction if I wanted to use it for that instead), but I can see how that is sometimes hard to avoid.

Congrats, Team Traveler. You, uh, reunited a family, I think? Nice!

Turns out Team Traveler were the good guys. We reunited a family dynasty, who will obviously become corrupt and rule the city.

Dun dun duuuuuuuuuuuuunnnnnnnn.

Event was good, just poor time management from myself. I found that we had an encouraging Team Captain and I enjoyed competing against others. Like Locke said, fiction and RO were very similar, but I've found that to be the case in a lot of events, even at GJW level.

5/7 would compete and beat Locke again.

I liked the idea of bonus points, it served as an extra motivator for participation.

Team Traveler4lyfe. Enjoyed the event myself, I slipped up in a couple of places - I.e the run on. But I'm with Malik I really liked the elemon of bonus points for team participation really felt our team come together at a few points in order to polish off all our entries.

Shout to my team captain who kept spirits high during the event.

All in all an enjoyable event with some good team interactivity. I wanted to grade you with a meme but Sang got there first so I'll just have to give it six thumbs up.
