Clan Odan-Urr Report #12

header

Odanites,

The low rumble of war can be heard off in the distance as a new leader takes her seat, but you’re not here for that. You’re here for this. Now that you’re done watching, wipe those tears of joy because, without further adieu, I bring you the news...

A Couple Staff Changes and the Coming Months

I’d like to start out by congratulating Turel on his big move to Fist. He laid out his plans and goals in his first Fist Report so take a look at some of the things you can expect to see from our gaming division. He was a major asset to the Clan and I have no doubt he will do a fantastic job as Fist!

This move left us with a vacancy. I decided to rope Aura back into the mix and seat her as Pcon. Her goals have a “community first” foundation so look out for expansions to all the community activities we currently offer and a heavy recruitment drive to bring new life into this Club.

As you’ve already heard, the next GJW is slated to begin later this month. We’ll be chatting with you all and looking for volunteers to help rally the troops. As we get more information, we’ll hand it right down and fine-tune our approach to this.

Playing with the Fleet

One of the things on my to-do list is to refine the fleet into a more focused and specialized force. I look to get rid of some of the clutter and use better ships (oftentimes more expensive) to fill out the units. Very much like our newest addition, the Providence-class Dreadnought also known as the ODN Peacekeeper, or unofficially the “Big-D” (the D stands for Dreadnought, you weirdos).

One immediate change I made, as you can see above, was to designate a prefix to the ships we currently have in order to give them a more official fleet feel, much like you’d get in that other big space franchise. Odan-Urr ships will carry the ”ODN” prefix while Vatali ships will use ”VRV” to signify they are a “Vatali Royal Vessel”.

Many of our ships are in need of fighters, fleet upgrades, transports and a couple need names so any help filling out these fields will be greatly appreciated! Plus if there is a ship that you’d want to use in fiction or one you hold near and dear let me know, so we can put it on a “Do Not Destroy” list. Click here to check out our possessions page!

As we enter this next GJW, let me remind you that any submission gets us the credits we need to outfit our military and establish bases. Every little thing helps us out. Do all the things!

Minecraft Server

So Mojong, the creators of Minecraft, have begun migrating all of their Java edition accounts over to the Microsoft network. We never quite figured out how to add our Java members to our Realm server (I’m hosting on the Microsoft version) so when it’s all said and done I’m hoping that this will make invites happen a lot easier without you having to purchase anything.

Also, if you already have the Microsoft version of Minecraft and would like to join the COU Creative server, message Aura and I and we can get you the invite link.

Also, also, if you are free this Saturday (5/7) around 12 pm EST, I’ll be fiddling around with some Minecraft stuff so you’re more than welcome to join. Keep an eye out for the Discord Event at the top of the server if you’re interested.

Desk of the Proconsul - The One With Community Building Projects

newsDoge

Hai, my name is Aura Ta’var and I’m your new Proconsul. Most of you know me already but for those that don’t I’m a big proponent of community building. My north star is helping pull people together, adding new friends to the group, and mentoring fellow members. Moreover, I firmly believe that it is the life blood of this club. That said, I’m dedicating this term to three projects.

  • First, strengthening group gaming through the pub-side SWTOR guild and Minecraft server

    • Short term goals: medium conquest pub SWTOR guild, minecraft building events
    • Long term goals: DB group SWTOR operations, An interactive game map of Odan-Urr (landmarks, homes, etc)
  • Second, recruitment of new members

    • Short term goals: Set up clan-wide recruitment infrastructure, get smart on existing recruiting efforts
    • Long term goals: 10 new JM4s, Roster of ~70 members
  • Third, mentoring fellow members in the ways of clan leadership

    • Short term goals: Reach out to those who might want a mentor and start chatting :)
    • Long term goals: Convince lots of you to try out clan leadership positions

That will be my focus going forward and I think it will help build our community. If you would like to help with any of the above projects, send me a dm on discord or email me. I respond quicker via discord though. I’ll provide more details on the above after the upcoming Great Jedi War. Lastly, if you have an idea to help build our community, feel free to chat with me!

Shake your Shinies!

Probably the most overworked member we have, James is the one who we all go to when anything needs to be changed or updated… or when we’ve broken something… on the site. If you can think of it, James can build it. That is why out of recognition for his endless list of responsibilities, diligence and dedication to this club, he has been promoted to a newly created Elder 4: Ascendant rank. Thank you for all you do!

Now for more commendations!

Ask:Revak & Aura

Zeon Asks: “Do you think the brotherhood will add any special things for the kenobi series, like his robes and stuff ?”

Revak: “This is a great question and I really hope they have something for the new show coming out.

If you or anyone else is interested in new drops for the Kenobi show, throw ALL of your ideas into the Regent Suggestion Box and they'll take a look!”

Aura: “We can certainly request it to make sure! Use the link above to suggest any and all items!”

Arch Asks: “State of the clan, go go go!”

Revak: “We're looking pretty good right now. House lore development is in full swing, the Clan story is beginning to take shape, members are joining the Community Events. Going by the scimitar numbers, participation had a minor drop this month, but otherwise has been very steady.

I'm drafting up a survey that I'll release to the membership later today. Feedback is always welcome!”

Rhys Asks: “Which Children of Mortis are you hoping to confront in the GJW?”

Revak: “Hmm, let me put this way…”

Kiss- Truthwardens

Marry- Lightbringers

Kill- Shadowseers

Aura: “Definitely the Shadowseers. Rest I don’t know yet.”

Essik Asks: “Do you have any strong feelings about chainsaws?”

Revak: “I am quite fond of them.”

We’ll you’ve made it this far. I’d like to thank you for reading our report. As always we try to keep things moving and interesting in COU, so if you have any ideas on other ways you’d like to see us do that, please share. Our door is always open.

If you ever have any questions or would like to tell us how crappy we are as people, feel free to contact Aura or myself. Until next time, may the Force guide you.

Apparently I missed seeing the application posting/process for Proconsul this time. :-|

I am curious why you specify through "through the pub-side SWTOR guild" as opposed to just the game as a whole. I would think that gaming with the whole community (on either side) would strengthen the whole. Wish you all the best in your efforts, however! :)

I couldn't agree more that playing both sides is the way to go. Unfortunately, getting key support at the club level for this approach has so far been a lost cause. As a result, the pub side guild is now the side that needs more help. Additionally, as proconsul to Odan-Urr, I have a duty to focus my efforts on providing a great experience to its members, who more often play on the pub side but will also game on the imp side as you've seen in recent group play sessions.

tldr: someone's gotta look out for the (new) little guy

Didn’t know you been trying to get players to join who had java. The too are technically different versions even though they share the same launcher now, windows 10 mc was free for all new windows players a few back… if not players will have to purchase it from the App Store, or you can link up from a switch, console and so on.

Sorry you missed your chance to apply for PCON, Bentre. Maybe next time.

I think Bentre was more referencing other members who could use the experience and learning about leading a Clan. Leadership spots are hard to come by and when people are not even given a shot to show their worth in the application process it can be quite disheartening. Particularly if that leadership role is the last item they need to check off for a promotion. While COU has many members, Blade included, that could do well in the position so do other clans. Not having an application process doesn't let those members even have a chance, no matter how qualified someone already is.

That trailer was pretty groovy

Big D all up in everyone's business!

If you're only interested in Pcon to check a box you don't have the qualifications I'm looking for. If you're interested in fostering a strong community atmosphere and engaging with members one on one in a positive way regardless of your title, then you have a much better shot at winning me over. These positions aren't a job. They are a way to give the people that come to this club an escape from the world, an escape from bs and to provide the star wars experience they came here for. Community is the lifeblood of this Club. Community comes first.

Sorry you felt I should have handled it differently but I did what I was required to do. Pcon is not a permanent position so we will be looking for another down the line and as the next GJW is quickly approaching I'd rather not spend it waiting on applications, interviewing and training someone when I could be focused on bolstering activity. I have a Clan to run.

I would like to thank you though for reading my report. I'd prefer you focus on all the cool things we do such as the Minecraft server instead of attacking the community events, but to each their own. If you're free, I invite you to come hang with us on Saturday. There's an Event at the top of the server and we'd be happy to see you there.

As someone who might actually apply for something like COU PCON, I think foregoing applications to get Blade into the post is a wonderful boon at any time, let alone right before a GJW. We're lucky to have her in that role.
