Hoth Quaestor Report #1 - Recieving the Baton

Introduction - Welcome to my first Quaestor report of House Hoth!

So let’s just get straight to the elephant in the room, Arcia aka Esca has stepped down from being our Questor and I was elevated to the position. This was the most bitter sweet moments of my day for sure. Not only did I get put in charge of the best house in the Clan (IMO) which made me super happy and excited it came at the price of seeing Esca step down.

I would like to take this moment and say Thank You, Esca! Your leadership, organization, work ethic and way at looking at things helped this House come from the depths of despair of losing New Tython to a bright future on Solyiat. You have also helped me grow to become a better leader and person. I look forward to guiding this House into the next phase of our life.

BTW - As Esca stated in his last report, there is a fiction for this event. Once it’s complete it will be released to you as soon as we can.

So now you all know the Hoth Aedile spot is vacant and Turel has now put up the call out for Aedile Applications, so please take a look at it and get your applications in the DEADLINE is January 16, 2017.

Also, just to let everyone know I have many friends here in the DJB and to not show any favoritism nor make any promises I can’t keep I will not be encouraging nor discouraging anyone from applying for the Aedile spot. If you ask me if you should apply, my answer will be “I think everyone should apply”. So please understand that BUT if you wish to reach out to me and ask about the House and how things run here or anything that might help your application please feel free to ask me.

Finally, I’m sure you’re all wondering “Ok, Edgar, you’re now the Quaestor and the Praetor to the Fist are you going to have enough time for both? Also where will you take House Hoth from here?”

You see the one benefit from this change in leadership is that I was working hand in hand with Esca on developing Hoth’s next step and that will continue. Then, once we have a new Aedile, I will work with him/her very closely to take what we already have on the drawing board, polish it up and hopefully have some awesome fiction updates for you.

I want to run the House summit as a partnership where once the new Aedile is brought up to speed I can start delegating some of the tasks of running the house and keeping the member’s busy with competitions and activities. So in the short term, I’ll be a chicken without a head I’m sure but I am hoping to find a compatible Aedile that I can rely on. I do not want nor will i like it if i have to micromanage every aspect of the house. So that’s the long answer the short answer is I don’t foresee a problem and if one arises I will talk to both Drac and Turel right away.

Now one of my main goals is to run a formal House event as soon as it is feasible. I won’t make promises as to a timetable for fear of falling into the “coming soon” trap, but we will continue our level of transparency with you the members in our monthly reports. Also none of this will be affected by my other job, with a new Aedile and Nero rounding out my team there shouldn't be any reason one should affect the other.

The best thing for you the members of Hoth is you know me and you know I’m here for YOU. If you need anything, have a question, comment, concern, complaint or even a suggestion to make Hoth better please let me know right away. This House is built by you and I will always include member creations into our canon as much as I can.

To that end, a wiki project group has already been formed to help create new Hoth wiki pages and more importantly create the House’s main page. This will be a top project for us and if you're not on the team and want to be email me right away!

Oh yea stay tuned for a new report header. I have to get what i need straight first then submit my request to the Herald Staff so maybe by next month's report.

So now there is so much to go over let’s get started.

Important DJB/Clan News Items

  • The biggest news item to hit the DJB was the installation of the New Dark Covenant this is the document that the entire club is based on and every member should read it or at least know of it’s existance. This document DOES spell out your rights as a member of this club so take a look at it.
  • Pazaak, the ever popular time-waster among frequent Telegram goers has undergone a few changes. Thanks to the frequency in which “turbo” Pazaak was being played (where players skip using the deck at all) the rewards from playing the game have been significantly reduced. This was first to .33 Clusters of Fire but after a lengthy discussion, Battlemaster Dracaryis opted to drop it to .4 CFs per match. While the Turbo version is still permitted among players, it will not yield quite the same rewards as it did in the past. So, your days of burning through twelve matches in five minutes are over.
  • Also check out The Fist’s last report as well it’s chock full of stats, graphs and the GMRG 4th Quater leaderboard reults!
  • The latest Voice Report has some nifty updates and explains what is and how to use the new Loadout system!
  • After some consideration, our new Hands of Justice have been chosen. Dacien Victae di Plagia will be taking the place of Right Hand, while Odan-Urr’s own Turel Sorenn will be covering the role of Left Hand.
  • The latest Wiki Report (besides celebrating the works of the Coen Brothers) has highlighted a number of new changes, from the treatment of possessions in wiki articles to plans for the future. That and highlighting the efforts of Elincia Rei in what is all too often an underappreciated job. Those interested in the lore behind the Brotherhood would do well to carefully read through this particular article.

Life Day 2016 Final results

I want to thank everyone that participated in this event. It came down to the wire. I want to congratulate this year’s *Life Day Champion - Chris Winchester. * Nice work!

And now all the pretty numbers and stats:

results

As you can See we had 30 Unique Participants submitting 154 entries in the 19 competitions and both KoA and Garza had excellent numbers with Garza have all 6 members do at least one competition. Awesome work!

Now for the the Life Day Top 10

  • 1st Place - Christopher Winchester with 30 Points
  • 2nd Place - Junazee with 29 points
  • 3rd Place - Darro Zhen with 27 points
  • 4th Place - Turel Sorenn with 26 points
  • 5th Place - Ka Tarvitz with 24 points
  • 6th Place - Yuki Suoh with 24 Points
  • 7th Place - Korroth with 22 points
  • 8th Place - Ken Iode with with 21 points
  • 9th Place - Tamashi Delat with 20 points
  • 10th Place - Seraphol with 19 points

No one went 19 for 19 in the event, so if anyone on this list did just one or two more comps, especially in the skill competitions, then these result would have been very different. So this does clearly illustrate my point of just doing one more comp. That one extra comp could have earned someone on this list a crescent or even the win. Just remember you never know how close the race is till it’s over.

Anyway congratulations to Nero, Juna and Darro for taking the Crescents for this event and thank you everyone for participating in this years Life Day Games! See you all again in 11 months!

Note the tiebreaker for 5th place with the most placements and thank you to Good Guy Drac for creating the slides for the event.

Ask Edgar

  • Tasha'Vel Versea asks: What are some things you would like to challenge your House and Clan to do?

Some challenges I’d love to pose to my House and the Clan as a whole is to just “Do one more comp”, by that I mean is in big events I have seen so many people or teams lose (like the Feud) last year because of people not doing enough comps. Now I’m not saying everyone has to always go 100% but if in a event of ten comps and you only want to do 2 that could hurt us, but if you and others just did one more comp it might be enough to push us over the top. Great Jedi Wars and Feuds are based on participation of the entire unit. So that one comp could mean so much to the House and or the Clan as a whole.

  • Tamashi Adaephon Delat ask: How was it running such a big event? and what did you learn from running it? Also, if a member would like to run something on that scale in the future, is that a possibility?

Ever since the beginning of 2016 I wanted to run the next life day. When I helped Turel run it I had a lot of fun and it was a blast to see everyone have fun. So when my turn came i decided to run it on my own and WOW it’s a lot of work and pressure too. It kept me busy and on my toes hyping events and creating new comps to make things interesting. In the end though it still was a blast! SO yes I will run another one again, but next time i will have a co-organizer to help grade and track the results. Doing everything alone is time consuming and stressful.

For any member thinking about doing something like that is first get a solid idea and outline worked up. Then before you put too much work into it talk to your Summit first! You need to be sure they have time in the Clan calendar for your event and then can help you formulate your ideas to make a fun event. They also have to approve it too so don’t put 100% work in without talking to them to make sure you can run the event you want to. So yes you could run it but you will need to have a plan and speak to your leaders first.

In conclusion -

It’s been one heck of a 2016 hasn’t it? I can only hope that 2017 is better not only for myself, not only for the House and clan but for you as well. I know with your help House Hoth will continue to grow and prosper.

Remember this is your House and my door is always open to ideas, suggestions, comments and complaints. I’m here for you so i want to hear from all of you!

In the end I wish you and your family a Happy, Healthy and prosperous new year!

May your Glorious deeds please Bahamut and keep Tiamat’s greed in balance.
