House Shar Dakhan Aedile Report - January 2nd, 2014

Inos System
Marauder Corvette Reaper's Call
Near Inos 7 "Rockpile"

On the bridge of the Reaper's Call, Captain Sola Keithel watched the space outside. It had been a week since the Senior Commander had returned and left. He had inspected the base, commended the Captain and her staff on their work, and then departed without saying where he had gone. She did not know when he would return, but had been instructed to keep this operation a secret from the greater part of the Assembly for now. That meant that there would be no trade, or if there was, it would have to be very indirect. She wondered how long he had planned to keep that up, but thought better of asking.

Moments later, a soft tone resonated throughout the bridge, indicating that new contacts had entered the system. An aging GR-75 medium transport, escorted by two TIE Hunters, entered the system near their navigation buoy. Though the ship was ancient, the Assembly had only recently acquired it, for use in deliveries to locations that were hidden from galactic view. The transport would be carrying a wide array of supplies that would be able to support the base for quite awhile, although it would likely only stay long enough to drop them off.

As Sola watched the transport slide toward the surface of the moon, she received a direct communication from Commander Moross. Her second in command been directing the base from the ground.

"Yes?" Sola asked, matter of factly.

"We've found something of interest," the Commander said. "It appears that those who built this outpost may have another base within the Orian System."

Sola grit her teeth at the thought of that, but any data they found had to be old. "It might be something we have already taken care of, such as San Korinar. Does it say where the location is?"

Commander Moross seemed to hesitate. "No, there's very little data. I'm sending it to you now."

"Understood, " Sola said. This news troubled her, but in the end, it might turn out to be nothing. She did not want to bring it to the Senior Commander's attention unless it proved to be of genuine interest.

Introduction

Hello folks! I hope you had a good New Year's celebration, and that you are coherent enough to read this report. If you're not, well, clearly, the solution is to drink more. :P In this report I'll note some recent awards and talk about competitions, but aside from that, there is not much else new from last week.

News

It's a new year and a new day. The most important news for the House is probably that our Quaestor now has internet access so he can do some things, like run a competition and write a report, which he has. Herald Style Hanukkah is over, and there's been some pretty sweet additions to the character robe and lightsaber selectors. Keep in mind that you don't have to use exactly what was shown in the news postings. For lightsabers, you can select from a wide range of colors, and for robes, you can typically choose from the Order colors, and decide whether you want to wear a cloak or not. Our Proconsul has also made a report, which included the fiction that wrapped up Vengeance. Finally, the Rollmaster of Arcona has made a beta mobile application for aspiring Dark Jedi Knights and is looking for testers. You can read about that here. Keep in mind, that for this, you don't have to be below the rank of Knight to try it out. You could be an Equite or Elder and help test it.

Of course, you should frequently visit https://www.darkjedibrotherhood.com/ and read the news postings for yourself. What's listed above is just a highlight of what's going on.

Accomplishments

Oh yeah, my favorite part of the report. Shirai already covered these in his, but I want to talk about them again because I think it's awesome that people are being recognized for what they do.

First of all, the big stuff. Darth Vexatus, Shirai Dupar, and Daedric Turelles all earned Steel Crosses for their various efforts in support of the Clan. Roxas Buurenaar and Shi Long earned Anteian Crosses. Last, but not least, Mirado L'eonheart earned a Dark Cross.

Sometimes it may seem like these awards are easy to get when a large number are awarded, but it's important to remember that they're not something handed out like candy. They're not competition awards, where whether you receive them or not is set in stone. Merit medals like those above note dedication and activity in the Brotherhood, and have to be thought out and awarded based on recognition from the Summit - in this case, the Consul himself. For some, you may receive awards fairly frequently, but you should always be proud of them and what they mean.

I just wouldn't recommend wearing too many into battle. A few might stop a vibroblade, but a lot will slow you down. :P

Additionally, Clusters of Ice were awarded for the Vengeance Runon and were earned by Shi Long, Daedric Turelles, Roxas Buurenaar, Jades Sadow, and myself.

Congratulations to you guys. It was a pretty fun Runon!

Competitions

These are called competitions, and they are. You write something, or draw something, or what not, and the judge awards the best based on a variety of criteria. Another way to see them is as the building blocks of a solid dossier, or as a key to unlock some other parts of the club that you may find more enjoyable, or fun in different ways. Many great leaders first came to the attention of Summit through their participation in competitions, or were noticed because of the merit award they earned for participating a lot, and they showed that through participating in competitions. A lot of them probably thought they would never place, but then they participated a few times and realized that they could be competitive and earn Crescents and other awards.

And that's two fun things about the club you may not have considered: the competition, and the leadership. Emerging victorious from a contest as part of a team and knowing you were part of that success is an amazing feeling, as is the feeling when you create content for other members that they enjoy, or directly help a unit flourish under your direction or with your assistance. That's the ultimate goal of leadership, and leadership is something anyone can be a part of. Sometimes it just takes a little effort first, and that effort isn't always quite as fun as the endgame.

That's enough talking. This time, I'm going to highlight Brotherhood-level Competitions. So in these, you're competing against not only Clan members, but everyone else in the club who cares to take a crack at it. So the competition is more intense, but so are are the potential awards. Who knows? You might surprise yourself. You may just enjoy what a competition asks you to do. I remember when I first placed in club-wide competitions. I thought I never would, but then it happened once, and then it happened more, and I was pretty excited.

Anywho, competitions!

First, there's one called Funniest Meme Challenge, where you make a meme relating to a scene from the new movie.

Next, there's a few gaming competitions. The first two are for mobile games and are for Commander and Galactic Defense, respectively. The third is a TIE Fighter single player mission, and the mission is included in the instructions. This one looks especially exciting to me. You can find it here.

Rounding out the club-wide competitions are three fiction competitions. Star Wars Sherlock tasks you with an investigation. Rule of Two asks you to tell the story of a (hypothetical?) situation in which you take your Master's life. Finally, this nice, short, compact, 250-word-or-more fiction competion with A Really Long Title asks you to describe your first training session with a new apprentice, and what it and they were like.

That's it! There's a fun meme, some gaming, and a few different fictions that challenge you to explore your character in various situations.

Closing

As you ponder the above, be mindful that we are roughly a week away from the start of the 11th Great Jedi War, and all that that entails. If you're interested in the story, be sure to keep up with the Dark Council's various reports and read the fictions in them. If not, relax now and sharpen your blade (or your mind, Krath). Soon, we will be in the thick of it.

And when we are, who will stand beside me and shout…?

For Sadow!
